Different ways to add Cast icon to Microsoft Edge Toolbar
Microsoft Edge comes with a built-in “Cast media to device” feature. For quick access, you can pin it on the Microsoft Edge Toolbar. In this post, we will use the following methods to do this:
- Adding cast icon to the Edge Toolbar using browser settings.
- Adding cast icon to the Edge Toolbar using Windows Registry Editor.
1] Pinning the cast icon using Microsoft Edge settings
You can easily add the cast icon to the Microsoft Edge Toolbar by using the Edge browser settings. Let’s see how.
1] First launch Microsoft Edge. Click on the three horizontal dots at the top right corner and go to “More tools > Cast media to device.”
2] After that, you have to restart the Edge browser. Click Restart.
3] After restarting the browser, you will see that the cast icon is not available on the Edge Toolbar.
Now, you have to pin it. For this, follow step 1 again and right-click on the cast icon, and select “Always show icon.”

2] Pinning the Cast icon using the Registry Editor
You can use this method only if you are using the Administrator account on Windows 10. Standard users cannot access the Registry Editor. Follow the below-listed steps.
1] Press “Windows + R” on your keyboard to open the Run dialog box. Now, type “regedit” and click OK. A popup window will appear on your screen, click Yes. This will open the Registry Editor.
2] If you want, you can create a backup of the registry before making any changes to it. For this, go to “File > Export.” Then, Windows will ask you whether you want to export the entire registry or only the selected branch. Select the option as per your choice and click Save.
3] Now, go to the following path in the Registry Editor.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft
3] Here, you have to create a new key, Edge.
For this, right-click on the “Microsoft” key and go to “New > Key.”
4] Select Edge key and right-click on the right panel of the Registry Editor and go to “New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.”
Name the value “ShowCastIconInToolbar.”
5] Now, double click on the newly created value and set “Value data” to 1. Click OK and close the Registry Editor.
6] Launch your Edge browser, there you will see the cast icon pinned on the Toolbar. If the icon is not added to the Edge Toolbar, restart your PC. However, I did not require to restart my laptop.
When you right-click on it, you will see that a new option “Added by your organization” is there, and unpin option is missing. This means only the person who knows the Administrator account password can unpin it using the Registry Editor.
To unpin it from the Edge Toolbar, set the value of “ShowCastIconInToolbar” to zero.
