Some Windows users have reported that Advanced Display Settings is not showing in the Settings app on their Windows computers. The Advanced Display Settings allows the user to change the size of the text, change the refresh rate and configure other display settings. In this post, we will discuss this issue in detail and see solutions and workarounds to resolve the issue.
Fix Advanced Display Settings not showing in Windows 11/10
If Advanced Display Settings is not showing on your PC, execute the solutions and workarounds mentioned below.
- Run Hardware and Device Troubleshooter
- Check Project settings
- Use Workarounds
- Update or reinstall Graphics Drivers
- Contact your IT administrator
Let us talk about them in detail.
1] Run Hardware and Device Troubleshooter
First of all, we will run the built-in utility, Hardware and Device Troubleshooter, which will scan what’s wrong with your display and if there are any misconfigurations due to which Advanced Display Settings are not displayed, it will resolve it. To do the same, open Command Prompt as an administrator and execute the following command.
msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic
It will launch the Hardware and Device Troubleshooter window, and follow the on-screen instructions to troubleshoot. Once done, check if the issue is resolved.
2] Check Project settings
Next up, let us ensure that the Project setting is not set to Extend, Duplicate or Second Screen only. If it is set to mentioned options, make sure to set it back to the PC screen only. To open Project settings, hit Win+P. Now, make the required changes. Once done, click anywhere on the screen to exit from Project settings and you are good to go.
3] Use Workarounds
There are some workarounds that we recommend you try if you just want to get over the work at hand and are not bothered about resolving the issue at the moment. In that case, we will show you two ways, to make adjustments to your display settings. So, depending on your need, either use any one of them or both.
From GPU Control Panel
Every single Graphics Card manufacturer, be it integrated or dedicated has made their own Control Panel. Therefore, we can use it to do what we would have done from Advanced Display Settings. To open their respective Control Panel, search it out from the Start Menu. Intel has Intel Graphics Command Center and AMD has their own Radeon software.
From Color Management
If some options are missing the Control Panel of your Graphics Card, look for the same in the Color Management app. It is a built-in Windows program and can be used to make adjustments to the display. To launch this app, hit Win + S, type “Color Management” and click on Open. Now, go through the tabs to make the required changes.
4] Update or reinstall Graphics Drivers
The Advanced Display Settings will go missing if the drivers are not in the optimum state. This means, they should be updated from time to time and should not be corrupted. In this solution, we will get rid of both possibilities.
First of all, update your Graphics Drivers. And then check if the issue is resolved. In case, the issue persists, follow the steps given below to reinstall the drivers.
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Display Adapter.
- Then, right-click on your graphics driver and select Uninstall device.
- Now, click on Uninstall to confirm your action.
- Do keep in mind that your screen will go blank for a few seconds, but once it’s up, reboot your computer and it will install the correct driver.
- In case, Windows failed to install the correct driver and is running a generic driver, right-click on Display Adapter and select Scan for hardware changes.
If the driver is still not installed, download a fresh copy of the same from the manufacturer’s website and install it on your computer.
5] Contact your IT administrator
If you are part of an organization, your IT administrator has the right to disable Advanced Display Settings. In that case, there is nothing you can do. And if you do decide to make some registry changes, it will go against the policy of that organization. So, talk to your IT administrator and ask them about the whole situation.
Hopefully, you can resolve the issue using the solutions mentioned in this article.
