Best Netflix Original Series
Interestingly, Netflix Original series doesn’t mean Netflix productions anymore. They have tie-ups with media houses that produce for them. However, Netflix remains the sole distributor. The reason for the craze behind Netflix Originals is that the content is unconventional and it first appears on Netflix itself, so there’s a high probability that you haven’t already watched it in cinema. Fresh content always has a value of its own.
Netflix Original content is marked by a red ‘N’ symbol on the cover. Here the list of Best Netflix Original series’:
- The King
- Marriage Story
- Fractured
- The Two Popes
- Dolemite Is My Name
- In The Tall Grass
- Tigertail
- The Laundromat
- The Kissing Booth
- Bright.
1] The King
The King is the story of Henry V, Prince of Wales, and the son of King Henry IV. Henry V, better known as Hal is a wasteful person who is more into the pleasures of life. His father doesn’t think Hal is eligible for the position of his successor and informs him that his younger brother Thomas would be replacing him. However, when Hal kills the invader Hotspur, the game changes. He is crowned the King after his father’s death.
2] Marriage Story
Marriage Story is a successful Netflix Original movie and this success can be attributed to the fact that the plot resembles the story of most married couples in the States. A popular New York movie director Charlie and his wife Nicole are facing marital problems. The once close-knit couple know they are out of love, but can’t just separate without giving their relationship a chance, all for the sake of their eight-year-old son. What will happen next?
3] Fractured
Fractured is an intense thriller and I won’t reveal the exact plot. However, knowing the beginning of the story makes it even more interesting. Ray, his wife Joanne, and daughter Peri are out for a thanksgiving trip. They stop at a gas station where Ray and 6-year-old Peri fall into an open construction pit. Peri’s arm gets fractured and she is rushed to the hospital. A while later, both Joanne and Peri go missing and Ray suspects something is wrong. He calls the police but the hospital claims that Ray came to the hospital alone. What happens next is really thrilling.
4] The Two Popes
The Two Popes is a biographical drama that revolves around the story of two popes – Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis. While the Pope is ideally the leader of the world’s most peaceful religion, this transition of power is marked both by controversy and struggle. Neither is it peaceful in the Vatican nor in Argentina, the home of Pope Francis. This film isn’t only about one incident or change but the psychology of people involved in the power play.
5] Dolemite Is My Name
Dolemite Is My Name is an excellent film for those who need a dose of inspiration. The stage is set back in the 1970s when Rudy Ray Moore, a struggling black artist, is trying hard to get featured on the local radio. However, being black in that era is nothing like being black today. The struggle to success wasn’t only against his rivals, but against racism. Will he succeed? If yes, how famous will he become?
6] In The Tall Grass
Siblings Becky and Cal hear the cries of a young boy from the tall grass. Here, the ‘tall’ grass means it is tall enough to hide a human figure. As they enter the tall grass, they get separated. Unfortunately, something is waiting there and its motives are sinister. Being lost was bad, but the worst part is being found. Is this movie a horror or a thriller?
7] Tigertail
Pin-Jui, a young Taiwanese factory worker is fed up with years of monotonous work, a loveless arranged marriage, and a lack of appreciation in life. He leaves for America for better opportunities. The struggle gets worse in the States as he needs to manage his new found career and family. He needs to choose his priorities and he does. But does his decision make his life any better? Or will he end up lonely as he grows older?
8] The Laundromat
The Laundromat is an excellent movie about the notorious Panama scan. Ellen Martin, a widow, is denied her insurance money. She starts her own investigation of two corrupt lawyers and ends up in Panama City, where she finds out about the world’s biggest tax evasion scam, in which the rich hide their money using the corrupt financial system.
9] The Kissing Booth
Elle Evans is a curious high-school girl who is interested in love and relationships but hasn’t been kissed before. She has a crush on this ultimate bad boy Noah Flynn who is interestingly and unfortunately the brother of her best friend Lee. Their friendship pact prohibits Elle from pursuing Noah, but will she listen to the heart or follow the rules.
10] Bright
This movie Bright is based in a fantasy world. Humans coexist with creatures like elves, orcs, fairies, etc. Ward, a human cop and Nick, his Orc partner, are responsible for maintaining law and order in their area. One day, when an Orc criminal shoots Ward, Nick doesn’t use the opportunity to capture the culprit. Is loyalty to his community more important for Nick than his duty. This movie is apparently about racism in the States and would be interesting to watch.
I hope you like these Netflix Originals.
