People say the 1990s was the era of romance and romantic films, and a lot has changed since then. Well, love remains the same, though the dynamics have changed. Romance movies for millennials aren’t all mushy, involving a white knight for the damsel in distress. They are more practical and usually a mixup of drama and comedy.

Here’s the list of the best romance movies on Netflix:
1] Sierra Burgess Is a Loser
Sierra Burgess Is a Loser is one masterpiece of a movie. The plot is around this chubby nerdy high school girl Sierra Burgess. Her classmates think of her as unpopular and unattractive, some of them being shameless enough to say that to her face. Sierra replies with wit and humor, but that doesn’t change the fact that she won’t score well in the dating market. Meanwhile, a young, handsome football player named Jamey tries pursuing a hot cheerleader, Veronica, who chooses to give him Sierra’s number instead. What follows is an amazing mix of drama, comedy, and romance.
2] 6 Years
6 Years is a beautiful romance movie about the lives of a young couple, Melanie Clark and Daniel Mercer. After being together for years, they decide to pursue their careers post-graduation. However, this brutal world is jealous of their happiness. One reason is that their colleagues aren’t as satisfied in their personal lives and relationships. Will this pull Mel and Dan apart, or will they sort out their problems?
3] The Ugly Truth
The Ugly Truth is a movie on that good old romance where the main characters start as rivals, hate each other, and eventually fall in love. Mike Chadway and Abby Richter are in similar professions but have different mindsets. Mike is an extremely misogynist and chauvinist person and Abby hates that. They clash over their ideologies over TV shows and in personal interactions. Mike acts like a bully and tries to dominate in quarrels. However, eventually, he falls in love with Abby and proposes. Will it be a happy ending story?
4] Crazy, Stupid, Love
The movie Crazy, Stupid, Love is more about inspiration than romance but is a must-watch. Most Americans have been cheated upon on relationships and divorce is common, thus they will relate a lot to this movie. Cal Weaver, a middle-aged man, is asked for a divorce by his wife, Emile, who confesses to cheating on him. Perhaps if he was young, it would have been a different situation, but this case is devastating for him. However, Cal gets to meet Jacob Palmer who helps him reinvent his life.
5] Two Weeks Notice
George Wade is an American real-estate developer and a billionaire. While he has everything a man could desire, his arrogance deprives him of what he perhaps needs to most – love. Then, this young intelligent lawyer, Lucy, enters his life. As he learns that she graduated from Harvard Law School, he replaces his Chief Counsel with her. But Lucy’s entry doesn’t just change his professional life. She takes over the responsibility for George’s issues. Will she change him? Will they fall in love? Will they be happily married forever?
6] Isn’t It Romantic
Young Natalie is a young architect, successful in her career but low on self-esteem. Her physique isn’t the best and men aren’t as attracted to a chubby figure. As she faces difficulty finding love, her mother explains to the girl how different romantic comedies are from real life. However, that doesn’t stop Natalie from falling in love with her colleague Josh. Josh doesn’t reciprocate the feelings and pursues a yoga model. Will the love story take a turn? Or will Natalie learn to love herself before loving others?
7] Safe Haven
Safe Haven is a very warming movie for most of the first half. It made me feel that the story wouldn’t have taken a turn. Katie Feldman is a girl-next-door who moves to a small North Carolina coast town. She keeps a low profile while working as a waitress. She progresses in her life as she enters into a relationship with her widower, Alex. Katie finds love and a family with Alex and his children. Everything is a sweet fairytale till a stranger associated with the lady’s dark past returns to her life.
8] The Last Summer
Life is careless when you are young and in a first-world country. It’s all milk and roses, or maybe not. The Last Summer is about a group of high-school friends enjoying their last summer before joining college. But it isn’t the best experience for everyone. Some are worried about upcoming expenses, some are concerned about losing friends and love as they separate after high school, and some are just having fun.
9] Set It Up
25-year-old Harper Moore is an assistant to Kirsten Stevens, an editor at a journalism company, who specifically deals with the sports section. 28-year-old Charlie Young is an assistant to an emotionless venture capitalist Rick Otis. Since Harper and Charlie work in the same building, they get to meet each other and eventually fall in love. However, their troublesome bosses are a serious problem. So, the couple decides to set their bosses up with each other.
10] No Strings Attached
Emma and Adam are friends and attracted to each other but are commitment-phobic. They are aware that emotions could ruin their beautiful friendship, yet they realize that they need each other for something that isn’t exactly love. The couple enters an open relationship with no strings attached. However, their compatibility is such that they are unable to fall for anyone else either. With time, they realize they need a long-term partner. Who will make the move first?
