If you cannot select multiple attachments in Outlook, this post will help you. Outlook is a known app, used for scheduling and communicating about appointments and meetings and most importantly for sending and receiving emails. However, a lot of users cannot select multiple attachments in Outlook and if you are one such user, read the article to the end.
Fix Cannot select Multiple Attachments error in Outlook
If you cannot select multiple Attachments in Outlook, execute the solutions prescribed below:
- Install the latest version of Outlook
- Enable the Attachment Preview option
- Clear Outlook cache
- Select the option present beside the attachment
- Repair Office
Let’s talk about these solutions in detail.
1] Install the latest version of Outlook
Developers launch updates when bugs get out of hand or users are having difficulty with various tasks such as adding multiple attachments. It is also a good practice to keep everything up to date; therefore, we will update Outlook. To do so, launch Outlook, click on File, and then on Account. Now select the Office updates and Update Now option. Wait for the update to complete and then see if you are able to add multiple attachments.
2] Enable the Attachment Preview option
We can also add multiple attachments through the Attachment Preview option in Outlook. However, before that, we need to enable the option from the settings of the app, once we do that, hopefully, we will be able to select multiple attachments. To enable this setting, follow the steps prescribed below:
- Launch Outlook and go to the File tab.
- Now click on Options, and select Trust Centre from the left panel.
- Now click on the Trust Centre settings button, and then select Attachment handling from the left side.
- Lastly, untick the box of the Turn off Attachment preview option and select the Ok button to save the changes.
Once the process is completed, click on the attachment to see its preview, and now select other attachments as well with the Ctrl key.
3] Clear Outlook cache
Not being able to select multiple attachments can result from a corrupted Outlook cache. Thus clearing it out is an effective solution, and that’s what we are going to do. You can follow the steps mentioned below to clear your Outlook cache.
- Click Win + R to open the Run dialog box.
- Now paste the following and hit the Enter button:
%localappdata%\Microsoft\Outlook
- Find the Roamcache folder, select all files from within this folder, and then right-click and hit the Delete option.
After clearing out the cache, we are going to use Microsoft Office’s own built-in tool called SCANPST.EXE. This tool will scan the personal folder files (.pst files) and repair any errors. Once the repair is complete, relaunch Outlook, and check if selecting multiple attachments is now possible.
4] Select the option present beside the attachment
Well, this is more like a workaround in which we will open the message with the attachments and then press the Ctrl key. A triangle option will appear, click on it to open the drop-down menu. Select the options ad repeat this step for each attachment.
5] Repair Office
Next up, if the issue persists, we need to repair Office. This is done if the issue is caused by corrupted or missing Office components, there is a built-in tool that allows us to run the offline and online troubleshooter, if the former fail to work, we will use the latter. So, without wasting any time, follow the steps mentioned below to run the troubleshooter.
- Open Control Panel.
- Make sure that View by is set to Large icons.
- Click on Programs and Features.
- Search for Office or Microsoft 365.
- Select the app and click on Change.
- Click on Quick Repair and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
If Quick Repair doesn’t work, follow the procedure up to the 5th step, and then instead of Quick Repair, click on Online Repair. Hopefully, your issue will be resolved.
We hope that you can resolve the issue using the solutions mentioned in this article.
