Microsoft released Recall, a revamped version of the Timeline feature, which allows you to go back in time and figure out what you have been doing. While the feature is slowly rolling out to everyone, some who have it on their PC can’t open Recall in Windows 11.
Minimum Hardware Requirements for Recall in Windows 11
One primary reason people can’t open Recall is because their computer does not meet the minimum requirement. If you are running Windows 11 24H2 or higher and still get this error message, ensure that the hardware specifications listed below are met:
- A Copilot+ PC
- 16 GB RAM
- Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus
- 8 logical processors
- 40 TOPs
- 256 GB storage capacity
- 50 GB of storage space free
Can’t open Recall in Windows 11
Currently, the Windows 11 Recall feature is exclusive to Snapdragon X processors since Intel and AMD chips fail to meet the minimum hardware requirements of 40 TOPs or Trillions of operations per second.
The storage issue can be quickly resolved by increasing the space allotted for recall or deleting previous snapshots. Another requirement that was in place during the Recall announcement was NPU hardware. However, I fail to see that listed on the requirement page. But that’s not the issue.
The issue is likely with old PCs that recently upgraded to Windows 11 but are still running on old hardware.
Microsoft also recently introduced Windows 11 24H2 LTSC requirements, and TPM is optional for Windows 11 24H2 IoT Enterprise Edition. So if you are running one of those, Recall may not work.
Another thing to notice is that Microsoft says Copilot + PC, which is essentially any version of Windows except for Windows Home.
Summing up, you need Windows Pro or Enterprise, not a very old computer, and especially not the LTSC version of Windows.
