Cortana speaks in American English, but you can change her language and make her speak in a language you want. Cortana however supports very few languages as of date, but more languages are expected to be added soon. The Cortana supported languages currently are – like American English, British English, German, Italian, Spanish, Simplified Chinese and French.
Change language of Cortana on Windows 11
To change the language of Cortana on Windows 11, follow these steps:
- Press Win+I to open Windows Settings.
- Go to Times & language > Language & region.
- Click on the Add a language button.
- Select a language you want to install.
- Click the Next button.
- Tick the Text-to-speech and Speech recognition.
- Click the Install button.
- Go to Time & language > Speech.
- Expand the Speech language and choose a language.
Note: Before choosing a language to install, make sure that Text-to-speech and Speech recognition are available for the language. Otherwise, you cannot set it for Cortana.
Change Cortana’s language on Windows 10
We have seen how to set up Cortana. Now to be able to change Cortana’s language on Windows 10, you will have to first install the language on Windows. Once you have done that, click on Options. Here I have taken German language as an example.
Click on Options.
The following setting will open. Here, under Speech, you will have to click on Download button next.
The downloading will start.
Once it is completed, you will have to restart your Windows 10 computer.
Once your PC has booted to the desktop, open Settings > Time & Language > Speech. Here, under Speech language, you will be able to choose the language you speak with your device, from the drop-down menu.
Select German, and you are set to converse with Cortana in german.
Below this, you are also given the option to recognize non-native accents for this language. Select the check-box if you feel.
Why is Cortana not available in English?
If Cortana is not available in English, you need to install the language pack on your Windows 11/10 computer. For that, you need to head over to Windows Settings > Time & language > Language & region. Click on the Add a language option, select a language, and click the Install button. Then, you can select the language as your Cortana’s language.
How can I change language in Windows 11?
To change language in Windows 11, you need to go to Time & language > Language & region and install a language pack. After that, you need to open the Preferred languages option and choose the language you want to set as system language.
Do remember to restart your computer.
