Fix Computer making Notification sounds when Sleeping
If your Windows computer is making notification sounds when sleeping, restart it and see if it helps. At times, the issue is nothing but a glitch that can be resolved by rebooting. In case the issue persists, follow the solutions mentioned below to resolve it.
- Check if your computer actually goes to sleep
- Check if there is a process still running
- Disable Fast Startup
- Restore default power settings
- Update your Battery driver
Let us discuss them in detail.
1] Check if your computer actually goes to sleep
First of all, we need to check and ensure that your computer is going to sleep or not. At times, when we don’t shut the lid of our system properly, there is a high chance that the system doesn’t go into Sleep mode. Therefore, the system is active, and you will continue receiving the notifications.
Additionally, you need to check if you have set the sleep timing to never. You can follow the steps mentioned below to do the same.
- Open Settings by Win + I.
- Go to System > Power & battery.
- Expand Screen, sleep, & hibernate timeouts.
- Check Make my device sleep after, if it is set to Never, change it to a time as per your need.
- Make sure to do it for Plugged in and On battery.
Once done, check if the issue is resolved.
2] Check if there is a process still running
At times when we close a program, it continues to run behind in the background. Therefore, the system doesn’t sleep, just turns off the screen, and the notification keeps on popping up. So, let us just check if there is a program running in the Task Manager. To do so, you need to follow the steps mentioned below.
- Open the Task Manager by Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Now, go to the Process tab and check if there is a process that generates notifications such as Discord or WhatsApp running in the background.
- Then, right-click on it, and select End Task.
Make sure to kill the entire tree, ie. all the processes related to it. Once done, check if the issue is resolved.
3] Disable Fast Startup
Fast Startup is a feature in Windows that helps your computer boot up faster after a shutdown. Since we are facing an issue with Sleep, we will go ahead and disable this feature as it might resolve the issue. To do so, you need to follow the steps mentioned below.
- Open the Control Panel by searching it out of the Start Menu.
- Go to Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
- Click on Choose what power button does.
- Now, click on Change settings that are currently unavailable.
- Untick Turn on fast startup and then click on Save changes.
Finally, check if the issue is resolved.
4] Restore default power settings
If you made changes to your power settings and encountered this issue, go ahead and restore it to default. Make sure to remember what changes you made so that you can replicate them if needed. To do so, follow the steps mentioned below.
- Open the Control Panel by searching it out of the Start Menu.
- Go to Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
- Click on Change plan settings.
- Now, click on Restore default settings for this plan.
- Click Yes to confirm.
Once done, put your system to sleep and then check if the issue is resolved.
5] Update your Battery driver
If nothing works, your last resort is to update your battery driver. We recommend installing the latest version of the Battery driver from the manufacturer’s website.
Hopefully, you can resolve the issue using the solutions mentioned in this post.
