Click the Start icon in the taskbar and select Settings from the menu that appears. Select Accessibility in the left menu. Then scroll down and select Mouse under the ‘Interaction’ section. Turn the toggle next to the Mouse keys option to the ‘On‘ position to enable Mouse Keys if it is already not enabled on your Windows 11 PC. Click the arrow next to the toggle to expand the section.
You will see 3 checkboxes. Check the box for ‘Hold the Ctrl key to speed up and Shift key to slow down‘ to enable the setting.
Once the setting is enabled, you can press and hold the Ctrl key to speed up the movement of your pointer on screen while using numeric keys for mouse actions. Similarly, to slow down the pointer, you can press and hold the Shift key.
To disable the setting, uncheck the box.
2] Use Control Panel to control Mouse speed using CTRL and SHIFT keys in Windows 11
Press Win+R. The Run dialogue will appear. Open the Control Panel by typing ‘control’ in the Run dialogue and pressing Enter.
In the Control Panel window, click the following links in sequence:
- Ease of Access
- Ease of Access Center
- Make the mouse easier to use
- Set up Mouse Keys
On the Set up Mouse Keys screen, locate the ‘Hold down CTRL to speed up and SHIFT to slow down‘ option under the ‘Pointer speed’ section.

How do I enable Mouse Keys on Windows 11?
Type ‘mouse keys’ in the Windows Search bar and click Open next to the Mouse keys option. You will be redirected to the Mouse Accessibility Settings screen. On top of the screen, there’s a Mouse keys option that lets you use your numeric keypad to move the mouse pointer. Turn on the toggle button next to this option to enable and use Mouse Keys on your Windows 11 PC. Alternatively, open the Control Panel and turn on the Mouse Keys from the Ease of Access Center.
How do I enable mouse acceleration on Windows 11?
Open Windows Settings by pressing Win+I keys together and navigate to Bluetooth & devices > Mouse. Scroll down and click Additional mouse settings. Go to the Pointer Options tab in the Mouse Properties window and check the box next to Enhance pointer precision. This option enables mouse acceleration in Windows. Click Apply and then OK to save your changes to your system.
