When you visit a website for the first time, if you are from the EU or other select regions, you might see a popup asking for Cookie Consent. Once you accept the cookies, your web browser remembers this, and you do not see this popup message when you visit the next web page or the website again until the website cookie expires or you clear the cache and cookies manually. But if the Cookie Consent banner keeps popping up on every page of a website even after you click on Accept or OK, it becomes very annoying. If such a thing happens to you, you can use the solutions provided in this article.
Cookie Consent banner keeps popping up on every page even after Accept
If the Cookie Consent banner keeps popping up on every page even after accepting, it can be frustrating for users and a concerning issue for website owners. Users have to accept the cookies on every page of the website they visit, which can irritate them.
According to the reports, most users experienced this issue either in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Therefore, we will talk about these two popular web browsers in this article.
- Check your Privacy Settings in Edge
- Allow third-party cookies
- Disable extensions or plugins
- Clear cache and cookies and try again
- Are you using Privacy Management Software?
- Install an extension
- Reset Edge or Chrome
- Contact the website administrator or contact support
Before you begin, check if the issue occurs in another browser. If it does not, then you know that the problem lies with your existing browser settings.
1] Check your privacy settings in Edge
The first thing that you should do is check the privacy settings in Edge. Microsoft Edge offers the following three tracking prevention levels:
- Basic
- Balanced
- Strict
By default, it is set to Balanced. If you have selected the Strict option, change it to the Balanced and then check if the problem persists.
2] Allow third-party cookies
Both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge allow us to allow or block third-party cookies. Check this setting in Edge or Chrome. If you have blocked the third-party cookies in Edge or Chrome, you might be experiencing this issue due to this. Allow third-party cookies and see if it helps.
The following steps will guide you on how to allow third-party cookies in Chrome:
- Open Chrome Settings.
- Select “Privacy and security > Site settings > Third-party cookies.”
- Select Allow third-party cookies.
Allow third-party cookies in Edge by following the below-mentioned instructions:
- Open Edge Settings.
- Select Cookies and site permissions from the left side.
- Now, select Manage and delete cookies and site data.
- Turn off the switch next to Block third-party cookies.
Now, visit the website you are experiencing the issue with, accept the cookie consent, and then reload the website. Check if the website asks for your cookie consent again or not.
3] Disable extensions or plugins
The problem might occur due to an extension installed on your web browser. To check this, disable all the extensions and then visit the website. Reload the website and see if the issue occurs. If yes, you have to identify the problematic extension. For this, enable the extensions individually and reload the website whenever you enable an extension. When the problem reappears, the extension you have just enabled is the culprit.
If you are a website owner and created your website on WordPress, the problem might occur due to an add-on. WordPress offers a lot of add-ons to make managing a website easy. Based on our experience, add-ons can sometimes cause issues on WordPress websites. If you have installed an add-on related to the cookie banner or cache management, disable it temporarily and then check if the issue persists. If this fixes your problem, contact WordPress support or add-on support (if available). Or, look for an alternative add-on.
4] Clear cache and cookies and try again
If the issue still persists, do one thing. Clear cache and cookies and then visit the website you are experiencing trouble with. Now, accept cookies and reload the website. See if the problem is fixed.
You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + Delete to clear cache and cookie data. This shortcut works in most web browsers.
5] Are you using Privacy Management Software?
Have you installed any Privacy Management Software on your system? If yes, you might be experiencing this problem due to that software. To check this, completely close the software. If it runs in the background, close it completely, disable it in the Startup apps, and restart your computer. Now, check if the problem persists.
You can also try one more thing. Enter the Clean Boot state and then check if the problem persists there. If not, you have to identify the problematic background application or service.
6] Install an extension
Users can also install an extension in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. EditThisCookie is a popular Chrome extension that allows users to edit cookies on Chrome. The same extension is also available for Microsoft Edge. Moreover, this extension has the Featured tag which means it follows recommended practices for Chrome. Hence, it will not harm your computer. You can install it on Chrome or Edge.
After installing the extension, you can edit the cookie settings for every website you visit. Change the expiry time for all the cookies of the website you are experiencing the issue with. If the Expiration section is greyed out, uncheck the Session checkbox.

7] Reset Edge or Chrome
Incorrect settings in Edge and Chrome can also cause this problem. We suggest you reset Edge and Chrome browsers to the default settings. This can fix the issue.
This action will reset your startup page, new tab page, search engine, and pinned tabs, and also disable all the extensions. Before performing this action, sign in to Edge and Chrome with your Microsoft account and Google account respectively to sync all your bookmarks and data to the cloud.
8] Contact the website administrator or contact support
If the issue still persists, website visitors can do nothing anymore. If you are a website visitor, you must contact the administrator and inform him about the issue. It might be he is unaware of this issue. If you are a website administrator and, despite trying the fixes mentioned above, the problem is not fixed, you need to contact WordPress support. If you have created your website on another CMS platform, you need to contact their support.
One possible thing that might be happening to your website is the auto-deletion of the cookie consent. It is possible that the cookie consent is deleted a few seconds after the user accepts cookies. In such a case, contacting the support is the final solution.
TIP: If you are a website owner running WordPress, are many add-ons available that allow you to set the cookie expiration date and time and add a cookie banner on your website. Check what expiry date and time you have set for your website cookies.
