If you launch Cortana, and you get a message which says, “Cortana is disabled, To use Cortana, you need to get permission your administrator“, then this post will help you resolve it. Remember, this is different from the situation where Cortana is wholly removed from the system. This situation is where you don’t have permission to use the app itself.
Cortana is disabled on Windows 10
There are a couple of ways this can be fixed:
- Disable and Enable Cortana
- Reset Cortana
- Reinstall Cortana
- Reinstall Cortana from the problematic user account.
1] Disable and Enable Cortana
If you have disabled Cortana, and then enabled it, it is possible that something went wrong with the settings. Even though Cortana is available, the permission error shows up. It would be wise that you perform the operation again, and if that doesn’t solve the problem, reinstall it. It may occur if this was done through a third party app or using the registry and policy methods.
2] Reset Cortana
Go to Settings > Apps and locate Cortana. Select it, and then click on Advanced Settings. Here you can choose to reset Cortana. It may fix any permission issue you may have with Cortana and your Windows account.
I hope these steps help you resolve the error, which says, “Cortana is disabled. To use Cortana, you need to get permission from your administrator.” You will definitely need an administrator’s permission to resolve this.
3] Reinstall Cortana
Cortana is now a standalone app and can be installed from Microsoft Store. One of the easier ways to fix this is you can uninstall Cortana using Admin account, and then reinstall it. Once installed using admin, the permission could be fixed.
4] Reinstall Cortana from the problematic user account
Since its a Microsoft Store app, you may want to reinstall the app from the user account who is having the problem. Make sure the user has a Microsoft account; if not, then you will have to create one so they can use Cortana.
It is one of the oddest issues I have seen to date, which doesn’t have an excellent solution. The 1st solution worked for me, and it entirely faulted on my side when I chose to disable, and enable Cortana, and it was not available in other users’ accounts.
