Why can’t I connect to the Origin Client?
There can be various reasons if you cannot connect to the Origin client. Some of the most common ones include Internet connection issues, server outages, antivirus software blocking connections, and proxy or VPN interferences.
Fix Could not connect to Origin servers
If you see Error Codes 14:1, 14:5, 14:7 or 14-8 and cannot connect to Origin services, execute the solutions mentioned below:
- Quit Origin and restart
- Set date and time to automatic
- Run Origin with administrative rights
- Add Origin to the software list
- Delete Origin cache
- Reinstall Origin
- Contact Origin support
Let’s get started.
1] Quit Origin and restart
Without panicking and going to hard troubleshooting solutions, start with as basic as properly quitting the app or website and then restarting it. Doing so refreshes and establishes the new connection with the server, clears temporary glitches, and fetches the latest data. Hence, Go to the Origin system tray icon and right-click on it. From the menu, click on the Quit Origin option. Once closed, restart the app, and if you want to be more cautious, power cycle the device.
2] Set date and time to automatic
We often unknowingly set the date and time to manual setting, which is one of the known causes of connectivity issues. Therefore, it is recommended always to set the date and time to automatic setting so that gaming online services that use time-based authentication tokens or codes, won’t face this situation.
- Click Win + I to open Settings, and go to the Time and Language tab.
- Select Date & Time and navigate towards the Set time automatically option.
- Lastly, switch on the toggle key.
Check if the reason behind the connectivity issue was due to time-related errors.
3] Run Origin with administrative rights
Lack of permission to access certain resources can also be one of the underlying causes of the issue. Therefore, we will access Origin with admin rights. For that, go to the search bar, type Origin, and select Run as administrator option. Now, launch the app and see if you can enjoy the game or not. If not, move on to the next solution.
4] Add Origin to the allowlist
Origin could not connect to servers or services due to the firewall blocking Origin’s access to the Internet connection. By adding Origin to the list of allowed apps in the firewall, we can grant the necessary permissions that Origin requires to function well.
Here’s how to allowlist Origin in the firewall:
- In the search bar, search Allow an app through Windows Firewall, and click on it.
- Select the Change Settings option, and click Yes when prompted.
- Scroll down, find Origin, and tick the Private and Public boxes.
Relaunch Origin to see if the app is back to its previous state.
5] Delete Origin cache
Caches are notorious for getting corrupted from time to time and then causing various kinds of issues, such as causing difficulties in connecting to the server. So to be on the safer side, we are going to delete the Origin cache, and here’s how you can do it:
- Click Win + R to open the Run dialog box.
- To open the Program data, type %ProgramData%/Origin and hit the Enter button.
- Delete all the content, except the LocalContent folder.
- Now, again click Win + R, type ‘%AppData%, and hit the OK button.
- Go to the Roaming folder, find Origin, and delete it.
- Now go back to the AppData location, open the Local Folder, and find and delete the Origin folder.

To reinstall Origin, follow the steps mentioned below:
