We have noticed that on some occasions, DaVinci Resolve cannot produce audio for a clip that we are trying to edit. Sometimes, it’s just a particular clip experiencing this problem that is majorly due to unsupported code, whereas, sometimes, there is no audio regardless of the video being played. In this post, we will discuss all those scenarios and see what can be done if DaVinci Resolve audio is not playing.
Why is sound not playing DaVinci Resolve?
DaVinci Resolve will not work if the audio codec is not supported. Even though DaVinci Resolve covers a lot of codecs, it does not support all of them. Hence, you need to check whether the format you are using is supported.
Fix DaVinci Resolve audio not playing on Windows PC
If sound or audio is not playing in DaVinci Resolve on your Windows 11/10 PC, follow the solutions mentioned below to resolve the issue.
- Check the volume of your computer
- Make sure that you are not connected to a Bluetooth headset
- Make sure that the audio code is supported
- Change Audio Output Device
- Remove and then import the clip
- Make sure that the source channel is not muted
- Reset DaVinci Resolve preferences
Let us talk about them in detail.
1] Check the volume of your computer
One of the most obvious things you need to do is to check if your speakers are not muted and the audio is not too low. If the volume is not in check, you will not be able to hear anything, even if there is no issue with the clip or DaVinci Resolve.
2] Make sure that you are not connected to a Bluetooth headset
Some of the users who were facing this issue were not able to hear the audio because the app was not producing any but because the audio was being redirected to a Bluetooth headset. In that case, we need to check if there is a Bluetooth headset connected to your computer. You can go to the Quick Settings and then disable the Bluetooth.
3] Make sure that the audio code is supported
DaVinci Resolve supports various audio codes, so, for the most part, nobody seems to have a problem. However, there are still some audio formats that it doesn’t support. You can go to documents.blackmagicdesign.com to know the supported formats. Even if you are not sure what your code format is, you can convert just the audio with a tool like FFmpeg and then drop the replacement audio in.

4] Change Audio Output Device
If the output device is not set correctly, you will not be able to hear anything. Ideally, DaVinci Resolve should automatically make changes to the settings to incorporate the correct device. Since we are facing an issue, we have to manually make the required changes for it to work. Follow the steps mentioned below to do the same.
- Open DaVinci Resolve.
- Now, go to Preferences.
- You then have to move to Video and Audio I/O.
- Finally, change the Device or Output Device and click on Save.
This should do the job for you.
5] Remove and then import the clip
Sometimes, there is a clutch when importing the clip that stops the audio files from being exported. One can remove the clip from the timeline and then import the clip. This should do the job for you.

6] Make sure that the source channel is not muted
If there is a particular clip in the entire timeline where the audio is not working, you need to unmute the source channel. Open the Clip Attributes window by right-clicking on the clip in the timeline. In the Audio tab, ensure that the Source Channel is not muted. If there is more than one clip, unmute all of them.

- Open the DaVinci Resolve app.
- Now, go to the Preferences from the menu present in the top-left corner or just hit Ctrl + ,.
- From the three-dot menu, select Reset System Preferences and click on Reset.
- Now, go to the User tab and select Reset User Preferences from the three-dot menu.
Finally, check if the issue is resolved.
