We can delete a Storage Space from Storage Pool in Windows 10 in 3 quick and easy ways. We’ll explore this topic under the methods outlined below in this section:
1] Via Settings app
To delete a Storage Space from Storage Pool via Settings app in Windows 11/10, do the following:
- Press the Windows key + I to open Settings.
- Tap or click System.
- Click/tap on Storage on the left pane.
- Next, scroll down and click/tap on the Manage Storage Spaces link on the right pane.
- In the Manage Storage Spaces page, click on the chevron to expand a storage pool you want to delete a storage space from.
- Next, click on the chevron to expand the Storage Spaces for the storage pool.
- Now, click on the storage space you want to delete.
- Click on Properties.
- Click Delete.
- Click the Delete Space button to confirm. The storage space will now be deleted from the storage pool
- Exit Settings app.
2] Via Control Panel
To delete a Storage Space from Storage Pool via Control Panel in Windows 10, do the following:
- Press Windows key + R to invoke the Run dialog.
- In the Run dialog box, type control and hit Enter to open Control Panel.
- From the top right corner of the window, set the View by option to Large icons or Small icons.
- Click Storage Spaces.
- Click the Change settings button, click on Yes if prompted by UAC.
- Click the Delete link for the storage space you want to delete in the storage pool you want.
- Click the Delete storage space button to confirm. The storage space will now be deleted from the storage pool.
Note: Deleting a storage space (virtual drive) will permanently deletes all files that it contains. You can click the View files link to see the files stored on the virtual drive, and back them up to another location, before deleting the drive.
- Exit Control Panel.
3] Via PowerShell
To delete a Storage Space from Storage Pool via PowerShell in Windows 10, do the following:
- Press Windows key + X to open Power User Menu.
- Tap A on the keyboard to launch PowerShell in admin mode.
- In the PowerShell console, type in the command below and hit Enter:
Get-VirtualDisk
- Make note of the friendly name of the storage space you want to delete.
- Now, type the command below into the elevated PowerShell window and hit Enter. Substitute the <Name> placeholder with the actual friendly name of the storage space you made a note of from the output previously.
Remove-VirtualDisk -FriendlyName "<Name>"
- When prompted in PowerShell, tap Y on your keyboard and hit Enter to confirm.
- Exit PowerShell when done.
