If you deactivate your account temporarily, it will make your content and followers disappear for a period of time but do not remove them permanently. And when you come back and join your account again, everything will be recovered automatically.
However, all these features cannot be retrieved if you delete your Instagram account permanently. Once an Instagram account gets deleted, all the photos, videos, likes & comments, followers, and every single content will be removed forever. Also, Instagram does not reactivate any permanently deleted account. So, think twice before proceeding with the steps. How to disable Instagram account
In order to temporarily disable your Instagram account, follow the below suggestions:
- Log in to your Instagram account
- Tap on your profile icon
- Click on the Edit Profile button
- Select the Temporarily disable my account option
- Answer Why are you disabling your account, and confirm.

Instagram doesn’t offer to disable an Instagram account from the Instagram app. In order to disable or deactivate it, you first need to log in to your Instagram account using any mobile or computer web browser.
On the following screen, move to the top-right corner and tap on your profile icon.
Next to your profile picture, click on the Edit Profile button.
Skipping the above two steps, you can directly move to your Edit Profile page.
On the following page, scroll a bit and then select the Temporarily disable my account option, available in the bottom right corner.
At this time, Instagram would want to know the reason for disabling your account.
So, click on the drop-down menu of the option that asks you to “Why are you disabling your account?” and then select the related reason from the list.
However, if you don’t want to clarify it, simply select Something else option.
After choosing your selection, enter your Instagram account password to continue.
Now, click on the “Temporarily Disable Account”, available at the bottom of the page in blue color.
Instagram will again ask you for your confirmation, then simply click on the Yes button.
That’s it; your Instagram account is now disabled. Now your friends and followers will not be able to either contact you or find you in search.
Also, all the content including photos and followers, will get temporarily hidden.
However, these features will come back again when you reactivate your account by logging back in using your username and password.
How to delete Instagram account
If you’re looking to remove all possible ties with your Instagram account permanently, then follow these steps:
- Log into your Instagram account
- Open the Instagram account deletion page
- Give a reason for deletion
- Re-enter your password
- Click Permanently delete my account.
Let us see the procedure in detail.
Go to the Instagram account deletion page and log in to your account.
Once you’re logged in, click on the drop-down menu of the option that asks you to “Why are you deleting your account?” and then select a reason.
However, if you don’t want to explain it, simply select Something else option.
Thereupon, you need to re-enter your password to confirm you want to delete your account.
After that, click “Permanently delete my account”, available at the bottom of the page in red color.
That’s it. Your Instagram account is now permanently deleted.
Upon deleting an Instagram account, you will now be not able to recover your photos, comments, followers, etc.
Besides this, you will not be able to use the same username again in the future.
