The Details tab for a file is handy when you want to find important info such as file size, type, modified date, etc. However, sometimes Windows may not display the details tab when you go to a file’s property. As a result, you cannot get to see these extra details. This post will show you what you need to do if the Details tab is missing in the Properties window of a file in Windows 11/10.
Fix Details Tab missing in the Properties window in Windows 11
Before you move to any fixes, ensure you are trying to access the details tab for files and not folders. As for folders, there is no details tab under the properties menu.
- Modify Registry
- Run DISM & SFC
- System Restore
- Create a new user account
You will need an admin account for some of these suggestions.
1] Modify Registry
Modifying the Registry would be the easiest way to return the missing details tab. The Registry system contains a hierarchical database that stores low-level settings for the Microsoft Windows operating system and applications that use the Registry. As a result, you can tweak these settings as per your requirements.
However, it is recommended that you take a backup of your registry settings before making any changes. Once ready, follow these steps:
Press Windows Key + R to launch Run.
Type regedit and press Enter.
Navigate to the following path:
Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\PropertySheetHandlers
Now, on the left pane, ensure that a subkey named {883373C3-BF89-11D1-BE35-080036B11A03} exists.
If it doesn’t exist, right-click on PropertySheetHandlers and select New > Key.
Name it {883373C3-BF89-11D1-BE35-080036B11A03}.
Once done, reboot your PC and check whether the missing details tab appears.

- Press Windows Key + I to go to Settings.
- Navigate to Accounts > Other users.
- Click on Add account.
- Next, click on I don’t have this person’s sign-in information.
- Select Add a user without a Microsoft account.
- Next, fill in all the details like username and password, and click Next.
- Finally, from Accounts > Other users, click on Change account type and then switch to your newly created account.
Once you have logged into your account, you must right-click on a file and check if you see the missing details tab. If so, you can move your data and settings from your old account to your new user account.
