In this tutorial, we will show you how to disable Copilot Model training for your Microsoft account in Windows 11/10. When you do this, your conversations with Copilot will not be used to train and improve AI.
By default, if you are signed in to Copilot with your Microsoft account, your Chat history with Copilot is saved, and the Model training option is turned on to train Copilot. Your text and voice conversations like queries, responses, chats, etc., can be used to improve and train AI. Though user data is not used if you are in the United Kingdom, European Economic Area (EEA), and other listed countries currently, user data from other regions is used for training purposes. If you don’t like this default behavior, you can opt out of Copilot Model training for your Microsoft account.
How to disable Copilot Model training for your Microsoft account in Windows 11
The steps to disable Copilot Model training for your Microsoft account in Windows 11/10 are listed below:
- Open the Copilot web app or Copilot desktop app and sign in with your Microsoft account if you are not signed in already
- Click on the Profile icon (or Settings) of your account available in the top-right corner of the app interface
- Click on your account name or email address
- Select the Privacy option
- In Privacy Settings, turn off the Model training option. You can also turn off the Personalization setting if you don’t want Copilot to use your chats, Bing activity, etc., for a personalized experience.
In addition, you can use the Export or delete history option in the Privacy Settings, and then export and/or delete your Copilot app activity history to remove your interactions with Copilot.
In case you want to opt-in for AI training, you can follow the above steps, and enable the Model training option.

Turn off Copilot Model training for your Microsoft account on mobile
If you use Copilot app for Android or iOS and want to turn off Copilot Model training on mobile, follow the steps covered below:
- Open the Copilot mobile app
- Tap on your Profile picture in the top-right corner of the Copilot app
- Tap on the Account option
- Access the Privacy section
- Toggle the Model Training option. Also, tap on the Personalization setting if you want to turn it off.

How do I deactivate Microsoft Copilot?
To deactivate or disable the Microsoft Copilot on a Windows PC, open the Group Policy Editor window. After that, navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Copilot. Open the Turn off Windows Copilot setting. Select the Enabled option and press OK to save this setting. Now users won’t be able to use Copilot on your Windows 11/10 PC. You can also completely uninstall Copilot in Windows 11 if you don’t use it.
How do I remove Copilot from Windows 11 Taskbar?
Earlier, to remove Copilot from the Windows 11 taskbar, we need to open the Settings app > Personalization > Taskbar > expand the Taskbar items > and turn off the Copilot button. This setting is no longer available and Copilot is now available as a standalone app. It is pinned to the taskbar by default. To remove it from the taskbar, right-click on the Copilot icon and click on the Unpin from taskbar option.
