You may have seen an alert as a notification in Windows stating that your location has changed, causing a new time zone to be detected. To make it convenient for you, it asks you to set the time zone by just clicking the Accept button. In this post, we will see what to do if the Time Zone changes automatically in Windows 11. The message you may see is:
Time Zone Change: Due to a location change a new time zone has been detected. If correct, hit ‘Accept’ to set.
Why does my computer think I’m in another time zone?
If you are connected to a VPN, your computer might think you are in another time zone since it creates a tunnel connecting to a different country. However, if you have not connected to any VPN or proxy network, you will probably face a bug. In that case, you can try some workarounds, as mentioned below. If that doesn’t work, you can only wait for Microsoft to drop an update.
Time Zone keeps changing automatically in Windows 11
If you keep seeing a message Time Zone Change, Due to a location change a new time zone has been detected on your Windows 11/10 computer, follow the solutions mentioned below to resolve the issue.
- Click on Accept if you have changed the location
- Disconnect VPN
- Disable Set time zone automatically
- Wait for the update
Let us talk about them in detail.
Time Zone Change: Due to a location change, a new time zone has been detected
1] Click on Accept if you have changed the location
If you have actually changed the location and want to set the time zone accordingly, you can just click on Accept, and Windows will redirect you to the Settings panel, allowing you to change the time zone. If you don’t want to do that, click on Ignore and continue seeing your native time.
2] Disconnect VPN
A VPN creates a tunnel and connects you to a different location. You can open the VPN you are using and see which location it is connecting you to. In that case, you can just ignore the message. When you disconnect the VPN, Windows will refer to your actual location and stop throwing the pop-up.

3] Disable Set time zone automatically
If you are receiving the alert even if you have not changed location and are not connected to any VPN or proxy network, you can disable the Set time zone automatically option. Also, disable the Set time automatically and then change the time manually. To do so, follow the steps mentioned below.
- Click on Accept in the error message or open Settings and go to Time & language > Date & time.
- Now, disable to toggle of Set time zone automatically and Set time automatically.
- If you want to change the time and make it correct, click on Change placed next to Set the date and time manually.
Finger crossed! You will not receive this error.

4] Wait for the update
Since this is a bug, the only thing we can do is follow some workarounds mentioned earlier. But if you followed them with no success, you must learn to live with it until Microsoft releases an update to resolve this issue. You can keep on checking for updates and installing them when they are available.
Hopefully, now you understand what to do if Windows can’t fathom that you have not moved anywhere and keeps on asking you to change the time zone.

What causes the time zone to change?
Your time zone changes whenever you change your location. However, Windows will never automatically change the time zone if you have enabled the settings to do the same. If you don’t want an automatic change in the time zone, disable the feature as stated above.
