Fix Dynamics 365 App for Outlook is missing
If Microsoft Dynamics 365 App for Outlook is missing in the Dynamics 365 organizations settings or it doesn’t appear within Outlook, try the following solutions to fix the issues;
- Check Outlook and Exchange versions
- Edit the sitemap with the sitemap designer
- Enable the Reading Pane
- Check for Office apps restrictions
- Enable optional connected experiences setting
- Redeploy Dynamics 365
Let us now look at these resolutions in detail.
1] Check Outlook and Exchange versions
If the Outlook and Exchange versions are not supported by the Dynamics 365 app, it might not appear within Outlook. For example, the Dynamics 365 app is not supported in versions of Outlook that use Legacy Edge WebView or Internet Explorer; Microsoft ended their support. According to Microsoft the Dynamics 365 app for Outlook is supported in the requirements as shown in the picture below.
If the Exchange and Outlook versions do not meet the Dynamic 365 requirement, it might not appear; so check and verify.
2] Edit the sitemap with the sitemap designer
Note that this solution applies to Dynamics 365 organization users who cannot see the app in the settings. To add this app in the organization Settings, edit the sitemap using the sitemap designer using the following steps:
- If you are the System Administrator or you have permission for a System Customer role, go to Dynamics 365.
- Locate Setting and go to Customization > Customize the System.
- Next, go to Client Extensions > Sitemap > Edit > Settings and then select the System group.
- Click on + Add and then select Subarea.
- Now, click the Type dropdown menu and click the URL option. Copy and paste the following URL path in the URL field:
/tools/appsforcrm/AppForOutlookAdminSettings.aspx
- Type Dynamics 365 App for Outlook in the Title field.
- Under the Icon option, you can select either the default icon or select the following:
/_imgs/area/crm_apps_16x16.png
- Enter crmapp_outlook as the ID value, click Save, and then choose Publish.
- Close the designer and when you see the Solution dialog, click Publish All Customizations.
- Finally, log out and then log in again into the Microsoft Dynamics 365 app for Outlook.
3] Enable the Reading Pane
Some users cannot see the app when viewing an email list but they can see it when they open an email. If this is your case, enable the Reading Pane in Outlook to allow Dynamics 365 to appear when you view the email list. To enable the Reading pane, open Outlook and go to the View tab > Layout > Reading Pane. Here, select the side you want the Ready Pane to be; chose either Right or Bottom. That’s all here.
4] Check for Office apps restrictions
Sometimes, Group Policy or Microsoft Exchange settings may be restricting Dynamics 365 app for Outlook. An organization’s administrator may have set restrictions to block Add-ins like Dynamic 365. Consult your organizations and inquire if such restrictions are available that are making the app not appear within Microsoft Outlook.
5] Enable optional connected experiences setting
If you are a Microsoft enterprise client, you need to check if the Enable optional connected experiences option is disabled. If that is the case, no app will appear in Microsoft Outlook. Follow the steps below to enable the setting:
- Open Outlook and go to File > Office Account > Account Privacy > Manage Settings.
- Next, look for All connected experiences and enable it if it’s disabled.
6] Redeploy Dynamics 365
If Microsoft Dynamics 365 app for Outlook is missing, probably it’s not deployed properly. To fix this, you need to redeploy the app. To do this, you need to be the account System Administrator. Go to Dynamics 365 and select Settings. Choose Dynamics 365 App for Outlook, select a user, and then click Add App To Outlook. This process may take up to 15 minutes. When you see Added to Outlook, exit Outlook and launch it again.
