In this post, we will see how to enable or disable the High Contrast Theme Warning Message and Sound on your Windows 11/10 computer, designed to improve usability, especially for users with health issues.
High Contrast Themes in Windows are useful for those computer users who have an eye-sight disability, since they heighten the color contrast of text, windows borders, and images on your screen, to make them more visible and easier to read and identify. When they are turned on or off, a warning message and sound is heard.
Enable or Disable High Contrast Warning Message & Sound
You can enable or disable high contrast theme’s warning message and sound using two different methods:
- Through Control Panel
- Using the Registry Editor app
Let us see both methods in detail:
1] Through Control Panel
To enable the high-contrast warning message and sound, follow these steps:
- Open Control Panel.
- Go to Ease of Access > Ease of Access Centre.
- Make the computer easier to see.
- Check or uncheck “Display a warning message when turning a setting on”.
- Again, check or uncheck “Make a sound when turning a setting on or off”.
- Click Apply > OK.
Let’s now see them in detail.
First of all, open the Control Panel. To do this, click on the Start button, type Control Panel, and select the result from the top of the list.
In the Control Panel window, make sure the View is set to the Category.
Then click on Ease of Access > Ease of Access Centre.
On the next page, click on the link saying Make the computer easier to see.
Under the High Contrast section, check the checkbox next to the Display a warning message when turning a setting on.
After that, check the box saying Make a sound when turning a setting on or off.
Also, make sure to mark the “Turn on or off High Contrast with left ALT + left SHIFT + PRINT SCREEN is pressed” checkbox.
Now click Apply > OK to save the changes you have made.
Once you complete the instructions, close the window and you’re done.
If you want to disable the high contrast message and sound, then simply uncheck both boxes saying:
- Display a warning message when turning a setting on
- Make a sound when turning a setting on or off.
2] Using the Registry Editor
The second method you can use is the Registry Editor app to enable or disable high-contrast messages and sound on your device:
To get it started, open the Registry Editor app first.
In the Registry Editor window, go to the following Registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Accessibility\HighContrast
Go to the right pane and double-click on the Flags (REG_SZ) string.
Set the value data according to your preferences:
- 4222 = Enable warning message and sound
- 4206 = Enable warning message and disable sound
- 4198 = Disable warning message and sound
- 4214 = Disable warning message and enable sound
Once you set your preferences, restart your computer to take effect the changes.
Hope this helps.
