Fix Error 0x0803D0010, OneNote Notebook not syncing
If you encountered Error 0x0803D0010 and the OneNote Notebook is not syncing, follow the solutions mentioned below.
- Check your Internet connection
- Restart Office Services
- Set the correct time zone
- Restart the automatic sync option
- Sync notebooks manually
- Update OneNote
- Clear OneNote cache
Let us talk about them in detail.
1] Check your Internet connection
One reason your OneNote Notebook is unable to sync is that your Internet connection is poor. To confirm this, we need to check the bandwidth. You can do this by using one of the free Internet speed testers. If your Internet bandwidth is low, power cycle your router—unplug the cables, wait for a few seconds, and plug them back. If that’s to no avail, contact your ISP.
2] Restart Office Services
You can encounter OneNote error 0x0803D0010 if there is a glitch with some of the Office services, namely Microsoft Office Diagnostics Service & Microsoft Office Click-to-Run Service. To do so, follow the steps mentioned below.
- Open Services by searching it out of the Start Menu.
- Look for Microsoft Office Click-to-Run Service.
- Right-click on it and select Restart.
- Do the same with Microsoft Office Diagnostics Service. If you don’t have this service, skip this step.
If you have some other Office-related services, restart them as well. Finally, check if the issue is resolved.
3] Set the correct time zone
If your time zone and time are set incorrectly, OneNote Notebook will not sync as it will fail to connect to the server. To rectify this issue, all we have to do is set the time zone and time correctly. Follow the steps mentioned below to do the same.
- Open Settings.
- Go to Time & language > Date & time.
- Now, check the Time zone and change it if it’s incorrect if the Set time zone automatically is greyed out or disabled.
- Then, enable Set time automatically.
Finally, check if the issue is resolved.
4] Restart the automatic sync option
Next, we will try a workaround by turning off the automatic sync feature, rebooting the OneNote app, and then turning it back on. In case the issue is a result of a glitch, restarting will do the job. Follow the steps mentioned below to do the same.
- Open OneNote.
- Then, click on File > Options.
- Go to the Sync tab and then turn off Sync notebooks automatically.
- Open the Task Manager, look for “OneNote”, right-click on it, and select End Task.
- Now, start OneNote again.
- Go ahead and turn on the Sync notebooks automatically option.
Finally, see if the issue is resolved.
5] Sync notebooks manually
If you encounter an issue when syncing automatically, try doing it manually. Syncing all the unsynced items manually can also make automatic syncing work. To do so, follow the steps mentioned below.
- In OneNote, go to File > Info.
- Click on View Sync Status.
- You will see all the notebooks that are not synced, so, click on Sync manually, and then click on Sync All.
Please wait for a few minutes as it syncs. Finally, check if the issue is resolved.
6] Update OneNote
If you’re experiencing syncing issues with OneNote, it could be due to compatibility problems with OneDrive’s updated API and sync protocols. Updating your OneNote application to the latest version should resolve this issue. To update it, you need to go to File > Account. Look for Update Options and then click on Update now. Wait for the update to install and then see if the issue is resolved.

7] Clear OneNote Cache
OneNote Cache files are temporary data stored on your device. They help OneNote access resources like multimedia files more quickly, without fetching them from the cloud every time. When you make changes in OneNote, they are first saved on your device and then regularly synced to OneDrive, but if they are corrupted, you will encounter this issue. To clear the OneNote cache, follow the steps mentioned below.
- In OneNote, go to File > Info > Options.
- Click on Backup All Notebooks Now from Save & Backup.
- Once done, from the Save & Backup tab, look for Cache file location, and copy the path.
- Open the File Explorer and go to the location we copied.
- Now, open the 16.0 folder.
- Look for the cache folder and then delete it.
Finally, check if the issue is resolved.
