1] Restart your PC

Windows File and Folder Troubleshooter is offered by Microsoft to help you fix various issues or errors you face with files and folders. This troubleshooter is not available on your PC. You need to download it from the Microsoft website. Once downloaded, you need to run the tool to fix the issues. It will automatically find the issues and fixes them.
3] Take ownership of the folder
If the folder is owned and managed by the administrator, you may see the error 0x8007000D: The data is invalid. You need to take ownership of the folder to fix the error. To do so,
Right-click on the folder and click on Properties. Among the tabs on the top, select the Security tab and click on Edit.
In the window that opens, if an administrator needs to Add users if they are not listed already and select appropriate permissions. Then click OK.

4] Remove Explorer add-ons and shell extensions
The explorer addons and shell extensions might also be causing the error by conflicting with the processes. You need to remove explorer addons and shell extensions to fix it. You can use Autoruns windows utility to remove them. Just download Autoruns utility from the Microsoft website and extract the zip file. It is a portable utility. You do not have to install anything. Then, run the Autoruns64 utility you find in the extracted folder and select the Explorer tab. You will see various add-ons and shell extensions. Right-click on the shell extensions and select Delete from the context menu. Repeat this until you remove third-party add-ons or shell extensions. After removing the addons and shell extensions, see if it helped you fix the issue.
5] Run SFC and DISM Scans
There might be any corruption in the System files or Image files on your PC. The necessary files might also be missing that are important to enable or disable Windows Features. You need to run the SFC scan first to fix any issues that occur with the System files and then run DISM Scan to fix issues with the Windows image.
To run SFC and DISM Scans,
- Click on the Start menu and type cmd. You will see Command Prompt in the results.
- Click on Run as administrator to run elevated Command Prompt
- Now, type
sfc /scannow
and press Enter. It will run an SFC scan which finds missing or corrupted system files and fixes them automatically. You will see the completion status in the Command Prompt itself. - After you are done with SFC Scan, type
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
and press Enter which directly goes into fixing instead of scanning or checking health. If there are any issues with the Windows image, it will fix them automatically.
6] Tweak Registry Entry
This error is also caused by a missing registry entry in the Folder Descriptions entries. You need to create a new registry file and import it to the folder. Make sure you back up the Registry before tweaking the Registry entries.
Open Notepad on your PC, and copy/paste the following text.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\{1AC14E77-02E7-4E5D-B744-2EB1AE5198B7}] "Name"="System" "Category"=dword:00000002 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\{1AC14E77-02E7-4E5D-B744-2EB1AE5198B7}\PropertyBag] "NoCustomize"=dword:00000001
Save the file as System.Reg.
Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions
in the Registry Editor.
Then, find the folder {1AC14E77-02E7-4E5D-B744-2EB1AE5198B7}
by expanding the folder tree.
Click on File and select Import in the Registry Editor. Browse and select System.Reg you just created. After importing the file, close Registry Editor and restart your PC. See if it has fixed the issue.
7] Rename the file in Clean Boot State or In Safe Mode
In the Clean Boot state, only the essential components of the Windows run disabling all the third-party programs. You can know which program is causing the error 0x8007000D while renaming a folder by performing a clean boot. For that, you need to restart your PC many times to know the program by enabling or disabling them with every restart. It will take some time to complete the process, but it is worth trying as it helps you fix the issue.
You can also try to rename the folder in Safe Mode.
To get directly into Safe Mode, open Settings > System > Recovery > Advanced startup and click on Restart now.
- Click on Troubleshoot to proceed.
- Now follow the steps laid down in the Advanced Startup options.
- It will take you through the entire process starting with – Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart > Press No 4 key. It will boot in Safe Mode.
