Fix Error 0x8007003A, The specified server cannot perform the requested operation
If you encounter Error 0x8007003A, The specified server cannot perform the requested operation on Windows 11/10, you should try copying a small file. If it is a large file, try compressing it and then copying it. You should always refrain from copying files larger than 2048 MB.
However, if the file size is not too large, follow the solutions mentioned below.
- Restart the Server and DNS Client services
- Run the Network Troubleshooter
- Configure Registry and then restart the Server service
- Copy the content in the Clean Boot State
- Perform a System Restore
Let us talk about them in detail.
1] Restart the Server and DNS Client services
First of all, we are going to restart the server services, as the issue could be a result of a glitch. Since restarting can get rid of the glitch, we will proceed with the restart. You can follow the steps mentioned below to do the same.
- Open the Services app by searching it out of the Start Menu.
- Scroll down and look for the Server entry (or just hit ‘S’ and you will be redirected to the section where entries start with the letter S).
- Right-click on Server and click on Restart.
- Similarly, find and restart the DNS Client Service.
Wait for the restart to complete and then check if the issue is resolved.
2] Run the Network Troubleshooter
Since we are talking about the network drive, there is a possibility that the connection is having some sort of issue. In order to find out what that is and resolve it, we can run the Network Troubleshooter from the Get Help app. To do so, follow the steps mentioned below.
- First of all, open the Get Help app.
- Now, in the search bar, type Run the Windows network and internet troubleshooter, and hit Enter.
- It will search for all the solutions and give you all the options to resolve it. Proceed with the one you like.
Allow the troubleshooter to scan and resolve the issue.
3] Configure Registry and then restart the Server service
Next up, we are going to configure a few registries and then restart the Server service as we did earlier. Since registries are a little vulnerable, we recommend you backup your registries. To do so, in the Registry Editor, click on File > Export, and then save it somewhere with the .reg extension. After creating the registry, follow the steps mentioned below.
- Open Registry Editor.
- Then, navigate to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management.
- Look for LargeSystemCache, and set its value to 1.
- Now, go to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters.
- Search for Size and change its value to 3.
After changing the values of these registries, you need to reboot the service by following the steps mentioned above. Finally, check if the issue is resolved.
4] Copy the content in the Clean Boot State
Next up, we need to stop all the services running in the background and then try copying the content. To do so, our best bet is to start your system in the Clean Boot State. You can follow the steps mentioned below to do the same.
- Open Run, type “msconfig”, and click Ok.
- Go to the General, uncheck Load Startup, check Load System Services, and Use Original boot configuration.
- Then, click on Services, click on Hide All Microsoft Services checkbox, and click on Disable all.
- Then, go to Startup > Open Task Manager.
- Right-click on the programs where Startup is set to Enabled and click on Disable.
- Close the Task Manager and click on Apply > Ok.
Now, you can reboot your computer, and copy the file that you intend to copy earlier.
5] Perform a System Restore
If nothing works, we will have to perform a system restore using a Restore Point to revert the system to the state where this issue was absent.
Hopefully, you can resolve the issue using the solutions mentioned in this post.
