Windows Update plays a significant role in the proper functioning of Windows Apps. So if you’re going to update an app, it basically uses the Windows Update resources to get the update. Due to this correlation, if something goes wrong with Windows Updates, it gets reflected as an error with apps. Till now, we have seen fixes for different errors related to Windows Apps and each fix was unique of its kind. Today, we’re going to share with you the possible workaround for the error 0x80080008 while updating Windows Apps.
Error 0x80080008, Something Happened and This App Couldn’t Be Installed
This is exactly the same error message which we’ve got with errors 0×80070005, 0×80240437, 0x80073cf9. This problem occurs when the Windows Update agent file Wups2.dll is registered incorrectly.
Thus this solution is re-registration of Windows Update files. Before proceeding to the solution mentioned below, I suggest you run the Windows App Troubleshooter and System File Checker scan once. Maybe you will get lucky and fix this problem. Otherwise, follow this:
1. Press Windows Key + R, type notepad to open Notepad.
2. Copy and paste the following commands in Notepad:
REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL /S REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL /S REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL /S REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL /S REGSVR32 WUCLTUX.DLL /S REGSVR32 WUWEBV.DLL /S REGSVR32 JSCRIPT.DLL /S REGSVR32 MSXML3.DLL /S
3. Now save the Notepad file with your desired file name but give it a format of .bat e.g. register.bat. Select the Save as type as All Files.
Right-click on this file and select Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Yes.
You’ll see the Command Prompt processing the commands.
After successfully executing commands you should reboot and re-try to update your pending apps, this should work fine now.
Hope this helps!

Seems to be a awful lot of “Fix:” articles about Windows 8 all across the web. Based on the abundance of those articles (and this site has a bunch of them too) and the dramatic increase in my customer volume since it was released to manufacturing…I’d say Windows 8 has surpassed Windows ME are the worst OS MS has ever released.
I currently have 30 customer machines in my shop…of those, all but one 1 is running Windows 8.
^^ Yep, agreed! In case of Windows 7 the fix articles were comparatively less. But our prime focus is to cover all the fixes so that users facing various issues can fix them easily :)
it worked…i need some more help …its like i installed windows 8 but the graphic of videos has been worse…probably because my system aint updating the radeon graphic driver for win 8 …please please help me with it
please mail me at skydiezel@gmail.com
and yeah great work man
Wow, this really helped !!
I received the 0x80080008 error code when trying to update to Windows 8.1 and all I had to do to resolve the issue was reboot my computer. Always try a reboot before looking up a fix; Tech Support 101.
Yes – I actually agree. A reboot sorts out most of my Windows problems too! :)
This batch file fixed the windows store problem for me, after spending a day trying every one else’s solutions. The Win8 Store failed to update my apps at first after running the batch file. In the Modern UI Start screen I reset the store cache as suggested on another site, “wsreset.exe” was all it took. Windows store opened and for the first time in a month successfully updated the apps. .. Oh and if you like to see what the batch file does and any output it generates then you can add a “pause” as the last line.
Thank you very much kapil. Much appreciated. Since I got my Windows8 machine 6 months ago I find myself using my computer less, because Windows8 seems to get in the way of work. Letting the windows store break so easily, and making fixing it so complex is very hard to understand.
i was problem in windows update in windows 8 showing on message failed code 80080008

Sadly, yet another suggestion that didn’t work for me :-( Still stuck on 8.0. This is really not very clever of Microsoft. Really, it isn’t.
