If you see error code 0x8004dedc when using OneDrive for work or school, it could be because you are trying to use OneDrive for work or school in a different region. For example, you may have moved recently to a different country when you received this error. Most of the work account and the school accounts can have a requirement where the region on your computer is important, and if it’s different, you get it. Here is how you can resolve it.
Fix OneDrive Error Code 0x8004dedc
As a regular user, you may not be able to solve it, but if you have an admin account, you can execute the command on PowerShell.
- Press the Start button, and then type PowerShell
- Please right-click on the listing, and run it as an administrator
- Type the following command and press the Enter key to execute it
Start-SPOUserAndContentMove -UserPrincipalName <UserPrincipalName> -DestinationDataLocation <DestinationDataLocation>
Here is what UPN and Geo mean:
- UserPrincipalName – UPN of the user who’s OneDrive for work or school is being moved.
- DestinationDataLocation – Geo-Location where the OneDrive for work or school needs to be moved. This should be the same as the user’s preferred data location.
So if you are moving from anywhere to Australia, you will need his or her email id as well. So UPN is the email id, and GEO is the location.
As an admin, you can also ensure that all geo locations are compatible using this command:
Get-SPOGeoMoveCrossCompatibilityStatus
It will display a list of your geo locations and whether content can be moved between them. You can further set up a scheduled move using the PreferredMoveBeginDate option and check the status using.
Get-SPOUserAndContentMoveState -UserPrincipalName <UPN>
The method is straightforward but is in the hands of the admin user or IT administrator. If you have this issue, get in touch with them, and they will be sure to resolve the problem.
