At times, Microsoft Store may fail to launch on computers running Windows 11/10 and instead display the 0x00000191 error. This issue impacts both business and regular users. In this post, we will discuss how to fix the Microsoft Store Error 0x00000191.
Fix Microsoft Store Error 0x00000191 on Windows 11
If you encounter a 0x00000191 Microsoft Store Error on Windows 11, you should first reboot your computer and router and see if the issue is resolved. If the issue persists, check and ensure that your system is updated. For that, go to Settings > Windows Update > Check for update. If an update is available, download and install it, and then see if the issue is resolved.
If you encounter the same issue even after your computer, follow the solutions below.
- Check your network
- Disconnect any VPN or Proxy Network
- Change the language and region
- Run WSReset to reset Microsoft Store Cache
- Reset and Repair MS Store
- Re-register all Microsoft Store Apps
- Reinstall Windows using Windows Update
Let us discuss them in detail.
1] Check your network
First, we need to check the network connection and ensure that the bandwidth is not low. You can use one of the free Internet Speed Test services to check your bandwidth. If it is low, you should try switching to a different network, and rebooting your computer and router. If none of this worked, ask your ISP to resolve the issue.
2] Disconnect any VPN or Proxy Network
If you are connected to a VPN when configuring the Microsoft Store, your computer will get confused when trying to find your location. If the location doesn’t match your Microsoft Account, you will encounter an error such as 0x00000191. We recommend disconnecting from any VPN or Proxy Network to resolve the issue. After opening the Store, you can reconnect if required.

3] Change the language and region
You can resolve the issue by changing the language and region to yours. Usually, these configurations are done when setting up the account, but maybe it changed after that. So, we recommend you change the language and region again back to the original. To do so, we follow the steps mentioned below.
- Right-click on the date and time on your taskbar (bottom left corner).
- Click on Adjust date and time.
- Disable Set time zone automatically and correct the Time zone if it’s wrong.
- Scroll down and click on Language & region.
- Now, change the Country and region.
After changing your region, check if the issue is resolved. If it persists, switch to the US and see if that helps.
4] Run WSReset to reset Microsoft Store Cache
Our next solution involves resetting the Microsoft Store. We are going to make use of the WSReset utility.
To run it, you have to open the Run dialog box by Win + R, type wsreset.exe, and click OK.
You can then reboot your computer and see if that helps.
5] Reset and Repair Microsoft Store
If the issue persists, you can reset or repair the Microsoft Store from Settings. To do so, follow the steps mentioned below.
Windows 11:
- Open Settings by Win + I.
- Go to Apps > Installed apps.
- Scroll down and click on System components.
- Look for “Microsoft Store”, click on the three dots, and select Advanced options.
- Click on Repair first and check if the issue is resolved. If the issue persists, click on Reset.
Windows 10:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Apps > Apps & features.
- Look for Microsoft Store, click on it, and go to Advanced options.
- Now, click on Repair, and then Reset if needed.
Hopefully, your issue will be resolved.
6] Re-register all Microsoft Store Apps
Re-registering Microsoft Store apps is a process to fix issues with the Microsoft Store or its apps. If the Store isn’t opening, hangs, or apps aren’t working correctly, re-registering can help. To do this, you need to open PowerShell as an administrator and then run the following command.
Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.WindowsStore | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
Once done, reboot your computer and check if the issue is resolved.
7] Reinstall Windows using Windows Update
To reinstall your current Windows 11 versions using Windows Update without losing data :
- Press Win+I to open Windows Settings
- Click on System settings on the left side
- On the right side, scroll down a bit and select Recovery.
- Locate the Fix problems using Windows Update section
- Click on the Reinstall now button.
- A blue window will appear. You may select the Automatically restart my PC 15 minutes after installation check box and click on OK
- Your PC will start and the repair process will commence.
Hopefully, your Microsoft Store will start working again.
