Fix Cisco Webex Can’t connect to audio error
Cisco Webex won’t be able to connect to audio if the audio service is down or not installed or the SSL Certificate is not installed. However, these are not the only reasons, in case, Webex audio configuration is not properly configured or if the microphone itself is disabled, you will encounter the said error.
If Cisco Webex can’t connect to audio, follow the below solutions.
- Install SSL Certificate when prompted
- Check Webex meeting service status
- Make sure your microphone is enabled
- Configure Audio Settings
- Reinstall Webex
Let us talk about them in detail.
1] Install SSL Certificate when prompted
In case, you are using a self-assigned SSL certificate, you will receive a pop-up request asking you to install the certificate. In that case, you need to click on SSL cert > Accept. You can also get Publicly Signed SSL Certs from the Public Certification authority. If none of this applies to you, just move on to the next solution.
2] Check Webex meeting service status
If the error message mentions that there is a problem connecting to the Webex Meetings service. You need to navigate to status.webex.com and then check if a server is down, you can also contact the support team from there and ask them to remedy the situation.
3] Make sure your microphone is enabled
You won’t be able to connect to audio if the microphone is not enabled on your system. Mostly, due to security concerns, users disable microphones from Windows Settings, also, there are some apps (mostly security apps) that disable the microphone for some reason or other. In order to enable it, you can follow the steps prescribed below.
- Open Settings by Win + I.
- Go to Privacy & Security or Privacy.
- Click on Microphone (you might have to scroll down a bit).
- Enable the toggle of Microphone access.
- Now, scroll down and enable the toggle for Let desktop apps access your microphone.
After making those adjustments, open WebEx and connect to audio. Hopefully, this will do the trick for you.
4] Configure Audio Settings
Next up, we need to configure the audio settings of the Webex app and make sure that the audio device is selected correctly. When you first install Webex, the app automatically gets configured correctly and then is altered once any changes are made to the audio settings of Windows settings. This process is mostly done pretty smartly, but sometimes, this can misconfigure the settings and cause issues. To do the same, follow the prescribed steps.
- Open Cisco Webex.
- Click on Settings (cog button).
- Go to Audio.
- Go to Microphone, click on the drop-down menu, and then select Use System settings.
- Do the same to Speaker.
- Finally, click on the Save button.
After making all the adjustments, restart Webex and see if the issue is resolved.
If you are in a meeting and want to change the audio device, just click on the drop-down menu next to the Mute/Unmute button and then select a device. You need to make sure that the device that you are using is connected to your system, whether it is connected via Bluetooth or wire, you will see its name there.
5] Reinstall Webex
If nothing worked, then maybe we can say that the issue is a result of some service that was not installed correctly. In that case, our best option is to uninstall Webex and then install a fresh copy of the same. To do the same, first of all, uninstall Webex from the following steps.
- Open Settings.
- Go to Apps > Installed apps or Apps & features.
- Search for Cisco Webex Meetings.
> Windows 11: Click on the three vertical dots and select Uninstall.
> Windows 10: Select the app and then click on Uninstall. - Click on the Uninstall button to confirm your action.
Once you have uninstalled the app, reboot your computer just to be sure that there is no fragment of Webex running in the background. After rebooting the system, go to webex.com and download the app. Then, go to the Download folder, run the installation media and install the app correctly. Hopefully, this will do the trick for you.
