If Microsoft Teams is stuck on the loading screen while you try to open it, use the following methods to fix it.
- Restart Microsoft Teams
- Check the internet connection
- Check the status of Microsoft Teams
- Clear Teams cache and temporary files
- Repair, Reset or Reinstall Microsoft Teams
- Use the web version and contact Microsoft support
Let’s get into the details of each method and fix the issue.
1] Restart Microsoft Teams
The simplest way to fix the issue with Microsoft Teams is to restart it. Close Microsoft Teams, and exit Teams in the System Tray to close it completely. You may also use the Task Manager to close it. Then, relaunch the Microsoft Teams app and see if it opens without any issues.
2] Check the internet connection
Microsoft Teams need a stable internet connection for it to run smoothly. If there is no internet connection or the connection is fluctuating, you need to make sure there are no internet issues. Use free internet speed test tools and see if the connection is working fine. If there are any issues with the internet fix them to use Teams.
3] Check the status of Microsoft Teams service
The Microsoft Teams app might not be stuck on the loading screen due to an ongoing server issue. There might be a server outage or services might be put on halt due to maintenance work. So, you need to eliminate the possibility by checking the current status of Microsoft Teams services and ensuring that its servers are not down. If there is no issue with the Microsoft Teams servers, use the below methods to fix the issue.
4] Clear Teams cache and temporary files
Microsoft Teams might have stuck on the loading screen due to corruption in the cache or temporary files. You need to clear them to fix the issue. Once you clear them, and open the Teams app, they will be created afresh.
To clear Microsoft Teams cache:
- Close Microsoft Teams completely even by exiting in the System tray
- Open File Explorer
- Navigate to %appdata%\Microsoft\teams
- Open the following specified folders and delete the files they contain. Delete all the files but keep the folders:
- %appdata%\Microsoft \teams\application cache\cache
- %appdata%\Microsoft \teams\blob_storage
- %appdata%\Microsoft \teams\Cache
- appdata%\Microsoft \teams\databases
- appdata%\Microsoft \teams\GPUcache
- appdata%\Microsoft \teams\IndexedDB
- appdata%\Microsoft \teams\Local Storage
- appdata%\Microsoft \teams\tmp
- Skip the folders that are not available.
Launch Microsoft Teams and see if it has fixed the problem.
5] Repair, Reset or Reinstall Microsoft Teams
If Microsoft Teams is still stuck on the loading screen, you need to either Repair or Reset it.
If that does not help then you might have to uninstall Microsoft Teams using the Settings app, clear the cache of Teams (as mentioned in the above method) and reinstall the Microsoft Teams app from the Microsoft Store. If you cannot uninstall Teams from the Settings app, use a third-party uninstaller software to do it.
6] Use the web version and contact Microsoft support
If none of the above methods helped you fix the issue, you could use the web version of the Teams on your web browser. It works the same way. Meanwhile, contact Microsoft support and let them know about the issue. They will guide you in fixing the issue.
