You may get the Error Code 1002 or receive the message An error has occurred when you launch Quick Assist in Windows 11/10 PC or once the security code is entered to establish the remote connection between the devices. This post is intended to help you with solutions you can apply to fix this error.
An error has occurred
We’ve run into a problem. An error has caused screen sharing to end or we cannot establish a connection. Please close Quick Assist and try again later.
Fix Quick Assist Error Code 1002 OR An error has occurred
If you see the message “An error has occurred” or you get the error code 1002 when you launch Quick Assist on a Windows 11/10 device or after entering the security code into the app, our recommended fixes, presented below in no particular order, can help resolve the issue in both cases.
- Run the Quick Assist app with admin privilege
- Re-register the Quick Assist app
- Change Internet Options settings
- Run SFC/DISM scan
- Repair/Reset/Reinstall Quick Assist app
- Use an alternative Remote Access software
Let’s see these suggested fixes in detail. Before you proceed, see if restarting the PC on both ends resolves the issue. If not, you can run the Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter on the device that’s throwing the error and see if that helps.
1] Run the Quick Assist app with admin privilege
This fix specifically solved the Quick Assist error 1002 that occurred for some affected PC users. This particular error code means that the ‘software that’s required for Quick Assist couldn’t be installed’. In this case, to resolve the issue, you need to ‘Run as administrator‘ (you only have to do this once) the Quick Assist app. Most app or file issues on a PC that are primarily caused by insufficient permission can usually be prevented if the user is logged on as admin on the PC. If you want, you can make programs always run or auto-start as administrator without UAC in Windows.

2] Re-register the Quick Assist app
Sometimes, in Windows 11/10, you can come across default apps that are not working properly which could be due to some critical app data being corrupted or having been deleted by accident. In cases like this, more often than not, re-registering all Windows Store apps or specifically the problematic app will resolve the issue. Do the following:
- Press the Windows key + X to open Power User Menu.
- Tap A on the keyboard to launch Windows Terminal in admin/elevated mode. Alternatively, press the Windows key + R, type wt in the Run dialog box, and press the CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER key combination.
- In the PowerShell console, type or copy and paste the command below and hit Enter.
Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers| Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
After the command executes, restart your computer, and on boot, run Quick Assist again, and see if the error persists. If so, try the next solution.

3] Change Internet Options settings
It’s possible that your computer’s Internet Options are not set properly. Specifically, encrypted pages are saved to your hard drive or SSD by default – if this setting is disabled, then you’re likely to get the error. In this case, you can simply reset Internet Options to default settings on your device or make sure that your computer is allowed to save encrypted pages by following these steps:
- Invoke the Run dialog box and type inetcpl.cpl and hit Enter to open Internet Properties.
- Select the Advanced tab,
- Under Settings, scroll down to the Security section.
- Now, uncheck the Do not save encrypted pages to disk option.
- Click on Apply > OK.

4] Run SFC/DISM scan
You can run the SFC/DISM scan command, which will scan all protected system files and replace corrupted files with cached copies. Both commands will take some time to complete. When done, and you get an output indicating no issues or issues were detected but have been fixed, you can run Quick Assist again and see if the error reoccurs. If the former is the case, you can proceed with the next fix.
5] Repair/Reset/Reinstall Quick Assist app
If re-registering Windows Store apps doesn’t fix the app issues you’re having on your PC, then you can repair or reset the app in question by following these steps:
- Press the Windows + I key to launch the Settings app.
- In the Settings app, select Apps from the left pane.
- Click on the Apps & features tab (Windows 10) OR the Installed apps tab (Windows 11) on the right side.
- On the list of all installed apps, locate the Quick Assist app.
- Next, click on the ellipsis (three vertical lines).
- Now, select Advanced options.
- Now, scroll down the page to the Reset section. The options to Repair and Reset the app are available in this section.
- Click on the desired button.
- Exit the Settings app when done.
If both operations weren’t helpful, then you can uninstall the pre-installed (default) app and reinstall the app via Microsoft Store.

6] Use an alternative Remote Access software
If none of the above solutions helped resolve the issue, you can try any available Remote Access software for Windows 11/10 – each has its strengths and drawbacks. For example, AnyViewer offers a lag-free and high-speed connection process compared to Quick Assist. In addition, AnyViewer can either connect remotely with no one on the opposite side by setting a security code, or by accepting requests when someone is present. So, you can go through each software and choose one that you find most suitable for you.
I hope this post helps you!

How do I fix Quick Assist?
The fixes you should apply will largely depend on the issue you’re having with the app on a Windows 11/10 PC. If you received error code 1002, then you can apply Fix 1 described above in this post. Generally, you can uninstall and reinstall the Quick Assist app if it is stuck on loading, signing in, or the connection screen—this usually happens after a system update.
How long can Quick Assist last?
Quick Assist session can last as long as required to complete the assistance given. However, to assist once logged in, a security code appears that will be valid for 10 minutes. This means the person that you’re trying to help has 10 minutes to enter this code; otherwise, it expires, and you’ll have to get a new code – you can click Cancel and start over if need be.
