All the Windows Update files are temporarily stored in the SoftwareDistribution folder. But by any chance, if these files get corrupted, you will face the mentioned error code. To solve the problem, you will have to delete the SoftwareDistribution folder. Here are the steps you need to follow.
To begin with, you will have to stop the Windows Update Services. For this, open Command Prompt in administrator mode and type the below-mentioned commands and press enter.
net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptsvc
Now, open File Explorer, navigate to C:\ Windows and locate the SoftwareDistribution folder.
Delete the folder.
Open Command Prompt again in administrator mode.

- Right-click on the Start button and select Settings.

After researching a bit in the Microsoft libraries, I found that this Windows Update error code 80070103 is displayed if you try to install a device driver that is already installed on your PC or if the driver that you are trying to install, has a lower compatibility rating, than the one you have already installed on your Windows computer.
Now, why would I try to install some driver twice?
It was Windows Update that offered me this update. It was then that I realized that just two days back, Windows Update had offered to install some Intel driver, which I had installed successfully. And it was again an Intel driver that was being offered to me again, today.
If you receive Windows Update error 0x80070103 while installing updates, you might be trying to install a driver that is already installed on your computer or a driver that has a lower compatibility rating than one you already have installed.
In case you still need to install the driver, you will need to install the driver manually by downloading it from the manufacturer’s website.
