Gaming services not downloading correctly
As reported by some users, the Microsoft Gaming Services app is not downloading correctly on their PC. It just won’t install. And, in some cases, it keeps showing the Installing Gaming Services. This may take a few minutes – but it never installs. Some users have complained that they can’t update the Gaming Services app. Various factors like a corrupted Store cache might cause the issue, corrupted Xbox app, outdated Store apps, invalid or corrupted Gaming Services entries in the Registry, etc.
Gaming Services not working or installing
If the Microsoft Gaming Services app is not working on your Windows PC, or you can’t install or update the app, here are the methods you can use to troubleshoot the issue:
- Reset the Microsoft Store cache.
- Repair/reset Gaming Services.
- Update all your Store apps.
- Uninstall and then reinstall Gaming Services.
- Reinstall the Xbox app.
- Delete the Gaming Services entries from the Registry.
1] Reset the Microsoft Store cache
If you can’t install or update the Gaming Services app or it is not working correctly, you should first reset the Microsoft Store cache. In multiple instances, the corrupted cache associated with the Store causes issues with its working and the Store apps. Hence, you can run the WSReset.exe command through Run or Windows Search to clear the Store cache and check if the problem is fixed.
2] Repair/reset Gaming Services
If the Gaming Services still don’t work properly, you can repair or reset the app via Windows Settings. This should fix any corruption linked with the app and resolve your problem. So, if the scenario applies, try repairing the app and if it doesn’t work, reset the app to its original state.
Here’s how to repair or reset Gaming Services on Windows 11/10:
- First, open the Settings app using Win+I and go to Apps > Installed apps.
- Now, locate the Gaming Services app and click on the three-dot menu button present next to it.
- Next, click on Advanced options and then scroll down to the Reset section.
- After that, click on the Repair button and let Windows repair the Gaming Services app.
- Once done, check if the problem is resolved.
If repairing the app doesn’t work, you can use the Reset button instead of Repair to restore the original state of the Gaming Services app and see if it helps.

6] Delete the Gaming Services entries from the Registry
If you can’t install Gaming Services on your PC or the installation is stuck at the Installing Game Services screen, it might be invalid Gaming Services entries in your Registry causing the problem. Hence, if the scenario is applicable, you can remove the Gamind Services registry keys and check if it helps.
However, before you make any modification to your Registry, create a Registry backup or create a system restore point to be on the safer side.
Now, follow the below steps to clear the invalid Gamind Services entries from the Registry:
First, open Run using Win+R and enter regedit to open Registry Editor.
Next, move to the following location in the address bar:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServices
After that, select the GamingServices key and press the Delete button to remove it.
Similarly, delete the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServicesNet
Once done, reboot your computer and then open Microsoft Store to install Gaming Services. This should fix the problem for you.
