Getting started with Microsoft Teams on Windows 11
The good thing with Teams on Windows 11 is that we don’t have to download it separately and install it. It comes well integrated with the OS and we just have to sign up and use it. In this guide, we show you how you can:
- Sign up or Sign in to Teams
- Change Name while Signing Up
- Sync Outlook and Skype Contacts
- Start a Chat or Meet
- Open Teams and Quit Teams
Let’s see how we can do them on Teams in Windows 11.
1] Sign up or Sign in to Teams
To get started, click on the Chat icon on the Taskbar. It will show you available Microsoft accounts on your PC. Select any of them to Sign up or sign in. If you don’t want to use those accounts and use a different account, you can click on Use another account at the bottom of the Chat pop up.
2] Change Name while Signing Up
You can change or set a name for your Teams account while you are signing up. To do so, click on the pencil icon beside the name on the Chat pop-up.
Then, enter the desired name and click on the Let’s go button at the bottom to continue with the process.
3] Sync Outlook and Skype Contacts
By default, your Outlook and Skype contacts associated with the Microsoft account you selected are set to sync with Teams. If you want to sync them, just ignore the ticked check box above the Let’s go button. If you don’t want to sync any contact, uncheck the box and continue with the process.
You can sync Outlook and Skype contacts anytime using the Chat icon on the taskbar. Click on the Chat icon on Taskbar and then on Sync contacts.
It will open a window to sync contacts. Select from where you want to sync contacts and sync them with Teams.
4] Start a Chat or Meet
After signing up, you can simply start a meeting or chat conversation using the Chat icon on the taskbar. Click on the Chat icon on the taskbar and click on Meet to start a meeting or click on Chat to start a chat conversation.
Alternatively, you can use Microsoft Teams app to start a meeting or chat.
5] Open Teams and Quit Teams
There are multiple ways to open Teams on Windows 11. You can open it from the Start menu list of apps, open it from the Chat icon and system tray. Click on Open Microsoft Teams at the bottom of the Chat pop-up on the taskbar.
To open Teams from the system tray, click on the system tray upward arrow and then click on the Teams icon. Or right-click on the Teams icon and select Open.
When you close Teams, it does not close completely. To close it completely, you have to quit it from the system tray. To do so, right-click on the Teams icon in the system tray and select Quit to close it completely.

Windows 11 Chat not working
