Some users have complained that when they try to install Google Chrome on their Windows 11/10 PC, it doesn’t work. It shows a No update is available error message. They can download the installer file, but the installation process is interrupted, and this message is visible again and again. For those who face this problem, the solutions covered in this post will be helpful. Before using the fixes, you should also check if your internet connection is working properly, and run the Google Chrome installer file as administrator. If you still face the same problem, use these solutions.
Why can’t I install Chrome update?
If you can’t install a Chrome update, it can happen if the update server is unavailable, your internet connection is unstable, or the administrator disables updates. Your antivirus or firewall settings might also be the reason for it as security tools can block software updates. Additionally, unwanted software or malware might also interrupt the update process.
Google Chrome No update is available when installing
If you receive this No update is available error when installing Google Chrome on Windows 11/10, use the fixes listed below:
- Temporarily disable antivirus or firewall program
- Use the offline installer
- Completely remove the Chrome browser and reinstall it.
Let’s check these options.
1] Temporarily disable antivirus or firewall program
Your antivirus or firewall program can prevent software updates and block them from going online. If this is the cause, temporarily disable Microsoft Defender Antivirus and turn off the Windows firewall or another third-party security tool you’re using on your Windows PC. Run the installer and you should be able to install the Chrome browser. After that, you can re-enable the antivirus program and firewall.
2] Use the offline installer
This fix helped some users to solve this issue. If the installer file can’t fetch the files to update or install the browser, you can use the offline installer of Google Chrome. The standalone installer doesn’t need to connect with Google servers to fetch update files to install it. It is also helpful if you have a slow and unstable internet connection. So, download the offline standalone installer of Google Chrome and run it. You will be able to install the Chrome browser on your Windows successfully.
3] Completely remove Chrome browser and reinstall it
After uninstalling a program or app, its residual files (say Registry entries, empty folders, etc.) may remain on the PC. Because of this, you can face trouble while installing the program again. So, if this is the reason you see a no update available error when installing Chrome on your Windows PC, then completely remove the Chrome browser and reinstall it. Once you have uninstalled Google Chrome using the Control Panel or Settings app, follow these steps:
- Open File Explorer, type
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Google
in the address bar, and press Enter. Delete the Chrome folder - Access C:\Program Files\Google and delete Chrome folder from this location
- Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Google and remove Chrome folder
- Navigate to the following path in the Registry Editor window and delete the Google key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node
Restart your PC and run the Google Chrome installer. Now, you will be able to complete the installation process.
That’s all.

Google Chrome won’t update on Windows
By default, the Chrome browser checks for updates regularly and installs and applies a new update automatically. However, if Google Chrome won’t update on your Windows 11/10 PC, you can update it manually by accessing the About Chrome page (chrome://settings/help) in Google Chrome settings. If you face trouble updating Chrome, clear your browser cache and cookies and try again. Also, make sure that Google Update Service is running and its Startup type is set to Automatic.
