Google Hangout’s security controls are enabled by default. So, in most cases, its users don’t have to worry about safety for use. All protections are in place! Google Hangouts audio or video call not working
If the person you’re trying to connect via Google Hangouts can’t hear or see you, try these steps
- Check your Google Hangouts settings
- Check your hardware
- Restart your call and computer
- Report issues or send feedback about Hangouts.
1] Check your Google Hangouts settings
At the top of your video call window, click ‘Settings’.
In the window that appears, make sure to select the correct device for each setting , when attempting to fix the issue. You can manage this via a Down arrow for the following,
- Camera: If your camera is working, you’ll see your video on the top right.
- Microphone: To test your microphone, speak out loud and ask if the other person can hear you.
- Speakers: To test your speakers, click ‘Test’.
2] Check your hardware
Make sure your microphone, camera, and speakers are plugged into your computer and enabled. Ensure the microphone isn’t muted.
If you connect any of your hardware using USB, check if you need to install software from the device manufacturer.
Ensure no other programs on your computer, apart from Google Hangouts are using your microphone, camera, or speakers.
At the bottom of the video call window, make sure you’ve turned on the microphone or camera.
3] Restart your call and computer
Exit Google Hangouts and restart your computer.
Rejoin the video call.

4] Report issues or send feedback about Hangouts

Choose ‘More’ option from the top of your video call window
Click ‘Feedback‘.
On the left, choose whether you want to include a screenshot. A screenshot can help with technical problems. You can highlight or black out any areas of the photo. Describe your problem in brief.
