Are you having trouble adding text to a canvas in GIMP? GIMP is an open-source graphic editor that users can use to edit photos and images. In GIMP, users can add text to their canvas or images with the tools provided. You can customize the font, size, alignment, and color of your text to your liking.
Text is the original words or form of a written or printed work. In this tutorial, we will explain how to add and manipulate text in GIMP.
How to add text in GIMP
Open GIMP.
Once GIMP is open, you will not see any canvas; you need to click File to open a Canvas.
In the drop-down list, click New.
A Create a New Image dialog box will open, displaying Templates to choose from, Image Size that you can change, and Advance Options. In this tutorial, we leave it as default.
Then OK.
The canvas will appear.

Now we will add a text.
To add a text, you will need to use the Text Tool in the toolbox on the left; if you do not see it, click the Tool button on the menu bar and select Text. The Text icon will appear in the toolbox on the left, or press T on the Keyboard.
Click the Text icon in the toolbox and click on the canvas and start typing in the canvas.
There are some Text tools to customize your text on the left pane like Font, Font Size, Justify, Color, etc.
To use the Font feature, click the Font button on the left pane.
In the drop-down list, select a Font.
To use the Font Size feature, click the arrows in the size box to increase or decrease the size of the text.
To use the Font Size Unit, click the Font Size Unit button.
Then select what you want the size unit to be.
You can choose if you either want to use the Editor or the Antialisating or both by clicking their buttons.
If Editor is checked, A GIMP Text Editor box will pop up, displaying a mini window containing the Text Tools.
To use the Hinting feature, click the Hinting button and select from the list any of the following Slight Medium, Full, and None.
To use the Color feature, click the Color button.
A Text Color dialog box will pop up, choose a color and click OK.
There are options to align text in the Justify section, such as Left Justified, Right Justified, Centered, and Filled.
Also in the Justify section is Indentation of the first line, Adjust line spacing, Adjust letter spacing.
In the Box section, you can choose Dynamic or Fixed.
Above the Canvas in the pane, there is a box above the text showing Font, Font Size, Italic, Bold, Underline, Strikethrough, Text Kerning, and Text Color.
To make the textbox above the image work, you have to highlight the text in the textbox and use the features in the box textbox above.
To highlight the text, place the cursor into the middle of the textbox and drag it across.
To lengthen the textbox, click the end of the textbox and drag it.
