You can display Microsoft Edge in your preferred language, provided Microsoft Edge supports that language as the display language. However, if you have, by mistake, selects a different language as the display language in Edge, you will want to revert the changes by changing the display language back to English. But since the Settings will be in a language you do not understand in this post we will show you how to change Microsoft Edge language to English.
How to change Microsoft Edge language to English
This article lists detailed instructions with screenshots to help you change Microsoft Edge Language from Chinese, Japanese, or any other foreign language back to English.
Open Microsoft Edge and click on the three dots on the top right side. Now, select the gear-shaped icon in the list of options. This will open Edge Settings.
Now, select the Language option from the left side. Since you do not understand the display language of Edge, identify the Language option from its icon. Its icon contains the English alphabet A.
Now, find out the English language from the list of languages on the right side. Here, you can use Google Translate. Take a screenshot of the list of languages and follow these steps:
- Visit the official Google Translate website in your web browser.
- Select the Images tab.
- Upload your screenshot.
- Select the English language on the right side.
Note down the serial number of the English language in the translated image. For example, in the above screenshot, the English (United States) language is in the 4th position from the top. In this way, you can identify the position of the English language in Edge.
Now, go back to Edge and click on the three dots next to the English language. Select the first option. If the English language is not available on the list, click on the Add Languages button (refer to the translated screenshot) and add the English language.
After doing the above steps, you will see a blue button in Edge. This is the Restart button. Click on it. Edge will restart and display the language in English.
If after changing the Microsoft Edge language to English, the new tab page displays content in another language, click on Page Settings and select your preferred region and language in the drop-down.
Alternate or direct way to change Edge language to English
Open a new tab in Edge and type the following URL in the address bar. Hit Enter after that.
edge://settings/languages
The above URL will directly open the Languages page in Edge Settings. Now, you can easily change the display language to English.
Why is Microsoft Edge in a different language?
By default, Microsoft Edge uses the same language as your system. Therefore, if your system’s language is other than your preferred language, Edge will also display the content in that language. Another reason why Edge displays content in another language is changing its language manually in its Settings.
Why is my browser not in English?
You can select any language as the display language in your web browser, provided it supports that language as the display language. If your browser is displaying content in another language, check the preferred language setting in your browser.
