Besides many good features, Microsoft Edge is also a handy PDF reader. Apart from viewing a PDF file, it provides some good tools to use while reading a PDF document. You can draw on PDF with 30 different colors in freehand mode, use an eraser to remove what you drew, rotate the PDF, zoom in and out, etc. Among all such options, one unique feature that you won’t find in other popular browsers like Firefox, Google Chrome, etc., is you can highlight text in PDF and save highlighted PDF in Microsoft Edge.
You can use five colors to highlight PDF text (including hyperlinks). The available colors are Yellow, Green, Light blue, Pink, and Red. When you are done highlighting the PDF document, you can save a separate copy of that PDF with all the highlighted text.
This post will help you learn how you can highlight PDF files and save those highlighted PDFs using Microsoft Edge. The screenshot below shows an example of a PDF file that is highlighted with separate colors using the Microsoft Edge browser.
Microsoft Edge doesn’t come with advanced PDF editing features like editing PDF text, resizing images, etc. There are already some free PDF editor software available to do that. But, if you are looking for a browser with a PDF text highlighting feature, then Microsoft Edge is definitely a better option to try.
Let’s see how to do this.
How to Highlight Text in PDF in Microsoft Edge
Launch the Microsoft Edge browser and then open a PDF file in it.
When the PDF is opened, select some text for highlighting. Right-click on the selected text and access the ‘Highlight‘ option visible in the right-click context menu. Yellow, Green, Light blue, Pink, and Red color options are there. Select your preferred color and the text will be highlighted with that color.
You can repeat the above steps to highlight any other text in that PDF document.
Unhighlight Text in PDF in Microsoft Edge
If you want to un-highlight a highlighted text, you can do that as well. Click anywhere on the highlighted text to bring up the options menu. Hover over the Highlight option. You will see a None option at the bottom of the submenu. Click that option to instantly remove the highlighter overlay from the text.
Save Highlighted PDF using Microsoft Edge
The above part clears how you can highlight any text content available in a PDF file using Microsoft Edge. Now, when the PDF is highlighted, you should save it for later use.
To save the highlighted PDF, you can click the ‘Save‘ icon present in the right corner just above the PDF file. This will save changes to the existing PDF. If you want to save the highlighted PDF as a separate document, click the ‘Save as‘ icon.
When the Save As window is opened, select any location on your PC, and save the highlighted PDF.
Use Highlighted PDF
Now you have the PDF with all the highlighted content, you can open that PDF in any browser or some PDF reader or viewer. You will see all that highlighted text in that PDF viewer/reader.
Highlighting PDF documents and saving the highlighted PDF with Microsoft Edge has benefitted me a lot of times. It will also be beneficial to many other users who use Microsoft Edge regularly to read PDF documents and want to highlight PDF text.
This post will show you what you can do if the Text Highlighter not working in Microsoft Edge.
How do I change the color of text in a PDF in Microsoft Edge?
Edge has built-in capabilities for viewing and marking up PDFs, but it does not support advanced text editing, such as changing the color of the existing text. To achieve this, you can use alternative approaches, such as adding new text boxes that overlay the original text in the PDF, using the pen tool to draw over the text with your chosen color, or highlighting the text by applying a translucent color over it. For full-fledged text editing, you need to use an advanced PDF editing tool, such as Wondershare PDFelement or Foxit PDF Editor.
How do you write text on a PDF in Microsoft Edge?
Open the PDF file by right-clicking on it and selecting Open with > Microsoft Edge. Once the PDF is open, click the Add text tool (represented by a ‘T’ icon) in the toolbar at the top of the browser window. Move your cursor to the location in the document where you want to add the text and click. A text box will appear. Type the desired text into the box. You may use the floating toolbar above the textbox to adjust the text size, color, and spacing, and also drag the text box to reposition it if necessary.
