ON EVEN EARLIER OLD EDGE VERSIONS
Installing the theme
To install the Google Chrome themes on the new Microsoft Edge browser powered by the Chromium. You need to get the CRX file for the theme.
To get themes from the Chrome Web Store, you need to get the Get CRX extension from the Chrome Web Store installed on your Microsoft Edge browser. Then you need to go to the Themes section of the Chrome Web Store. And select a theme that you want to install.
On the landing page for the particular theme, right-click on the button that says Add to Chrome. And then select Get CRX of this extension. It will download the CRX file for that particular theme.
Now open the extensions page of the Microsoft Edge browser. Enter the following URL to enter it-
edge://extensions/
Make sure that the toggle for Developer mode to be turned on. Drag and drop the downloaded CRX for that theme to that extension page.
It will finally install the theme automatically on your Microsoft Edge browser.
It is worth noting that the Chrome theme which you have installed on Chromium Edge will not appear under the Extension page.
Uninstalling the theme.
Uninstalling this theme is somewhat of a tedious task.
First, you need to visit the landing page of the theme that you just installed and get the Theme ID from the page URL from the latter part of the URL.
Copy the theme ID to your clipboard and now, navigate to the following path in using File Explorer-
C:\Users\<YOUR USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge SxS\User Data\Default
Look up for a file called Preference. Right-click on it and open it with Notepad.
Search for the Theme ID that you earlier copied. It will be something like this-
theme":{"id": " aghfnjkcakhmadgdomlmlhhaocbkloab","pack"
Change it to-
theme":{"id": " ","pack"
Save the file and restart your browser for the changes to take effect.
The theme will be uninstalled.
