If you want to remove Microsoft Edge and Bing search on Windows 11, here is how you can do that. Although it is not possible in all regions across the globe, you can do a little registry modification to enable the “Uninstall” option in Windows Settings. Here is the detailed guide you need to follow that currently works only on the latest Dev versions of Windows 11.
Although Edge is a pretty feature-rich web browser that you can use daily, some people always want to use Google Chrome. The same thing happens with Bing Search as well. If you are one of them, you can obtain the privilege by tweaking the registry files to remove Edge and Bing search from your Windows 11 computer.
How to remove Edge and Bing Search on Windows 11
To uninstall or remove Microsoft Edge browser and Bing Search on Windows 11, follow these steps:
- Open the Registry Editor on your computer.
- Navigate to DeviceRegionin HKLM.
- Double-click on the REG_DWORD value and enter the country code.
- Navigate to Geo in HKEY_USERS.
- Open the Name REG_SZ and enter the country name code.
- Double-click on the Nation and set the same Value data.
- Restart your computer.
- Open Windows Settings and uninstall Edge and Bing search.
Before you begin, remember to create a system restore point first.
First, you need to open the Registry Editor. Then, you need to navigate to this path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Control Panel\DeviceRegion
In the DeviceRegion key, you can find a REG_DWORD value named DeviceRegion. You need to double-click on it and set the Value data as one of the countries that come under Europe. You can head to the learn.microsoft.com page to learn more about the Hexadecimal or Decimal value and keep it in mind since you need it further.
The main reason is that Microsoft has enabled this option only in European countries. That is why you need to change the Geolocation so that you can find the same option from anywhere.
Once done, click the OK button.
Next, you need to navigate to this path:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\International\Geo
First, double-click on the Name REG_SZ value and enter the country name code. For example, if you have selected France, you need to enter FR and click the OK button.
Then, double-click on the Nation REG_SZ value and set the numeric value of the same country. For your information, it is the same as the first value you entered.
You are already done. However, it is suggested to check one more thing. For that, enter this path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost\Applicability
Here you can find two values named EnablePreviewBuilds and BranchName. The Value data of the first REG_DOWRD value must not be 0. On the other hand, the Value data of the second value should be ReleasePreview.
Once you are done with all this, close all the windows and restart your computer.
Finally, you can open the Windows Settings panel and navigate to Apps > Installed apps to uninstall both of them.
That’s all! I hope it helped.
TIP: You can also use ViVeTool from GitHub to uninstall Edge. This will work on Windows 11 Build 22621/31.2787 and Windows 10 Build 19045.3757 or later.
Open Command Prompt as Administrator and navigate to the ViVeTool folder using the CD command.
- Type
vivetool /enable /id:44353396
and hit Enter. - Restart your computer.
- First, open REGEDIT and go to
Computer\HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\International\Geo
and note down the Name value date. You will need it later. - Next, open Explorer and go to C:\Windows\system32.
- Locate IntegratedServicesRegionPolicySet file
- Right-click it and select Properties.
- Take ownership of the file by going to the Security tab.
- Copy this file to another folder as a backup.
- Now open this IntegratedServicesRegionPolicySet file in Notepad as Administrator
- Change defaultState from
disabled
toenabled
- Also, add your country name, which you noted earlier from REGEDIT to the list of supported regions.
- Save and restart your computer.
You will now be able to uninstall Edge or apply other EU-exclusive changes, even if you live in any other country.
