With Microsoft adding more features to MS Word every so often, it has become a powerful office software worldwide. This versatile software can now handle more complex functions like editing and deleting Bookmarks, Likes for Comments, Table sorting, and more.
You can also jazz up your Word doc using different fonts, images, shapes, text styles, smart art, and even rotate or change the direction of your text. So, if you want to enhance the look of your document, you can rotate the text using the Text box. In this post, we will cover some super easy ways to rotate text in Microsoft Word.
How to rotate Text in Word
Before you rotate the text or the text box, you would need to create a text box. To create a text box, click on Insert, and click to expand the Text Box. Now, select the text box style from the Built-in options/More Text Boxes from Office.com/Draw Text Box. Now, type or paste the text inside the text box and move on to rotate the text in Microsoft Word.

1] Rotate the text box and/or text using the Rotate function
Once you have created the text box and added the text inside it, now, you can either rotate the Text Box, or the text inside it.
For this, select the Text Box, click on Rotate on the top right, and select Rotate Right 90°/ Rotate Left 90°/Flip Vertical/Flip Horizontal.
To rotate the text, click next to the text or select the text, click on Rotate, and select Rotate Right 90°/ Rotate Left 90°/Flip Vertical/Flip Horizontal.
You can also select More Rotation Options, and go to the Size tab. Here, go to Rotate, and set your preferred Rotation angle for both the text box and the text inside the box.

2] Mirror the text via 3D rotation
After you have created the Text Box and added the text, click on Shape Format in the toolbar on the top right. Now, click on Text Effects, select 3-D Rotation, and choose your option (Parallel/Perspective/Oblique). This will rotate the text in 3-D format.
To rotate the Text Box, select Shape Effects > 3-D Rotation > Select the shape.

3] Rotate the text direction manually
However, if you want to rotate the text or the text box manually, here’s what you can do. All you need to do is place your mouse cursor on the clockwise open circle arrow above the Text Box and move the box in your preferred directions. You can also rotate the text inside the box in the same manner. Simply place the cursor on the clockwise open circle arrow above the text and drag it in your preferred direction to rotate it.

4] Change the text direction
But if you simply want to change the text direction in Microsoft Word and not the Text Box, select the text inside the box and select Shape Format. Now, click to expand Text Direction, and now, select either Horizontal, Rotate all text 90°, or Rotate all text 270°. You can also, select Text Direction Options to change the Orientation.
5] Revolve the text in a Table
Once you have inserted a Table in Microsoft Word and added the required content, you are now ready to rotate the text for an enhanced look. Select the Table, and click on Layout next to Table Design in the toolbar. Now, keep pressing the Text Direction option till you get the desired angle. You can also click on the picture icons on the left to change the text Alignment.
Or, you can select the Table, right-click on it, and select Text Direction from the context menu. This will open the Text Direction – Table Cell dialog. Here, go to Orientation and select Landscape to rotate the Table text.

Bonus tip
Now that you know how to rotate the text or the text box in Microsoft Word, you can also delete the black border around the text. For this, select the text > Shape Format > Shape Styles > Shape Outline > No Outline. Or, you can click on the little arrow below it and it will open the Format Shape sidebar. Here, you can select No Line to remove the border.

Yes, you can rotate a single page in Word from Portrait to Landscape and back. For this, select the entire text on that specific page, choose Layout from the tools section, and click on the small arrow below Hyphenation to open the Page Setup dialog. Here, under the Margins tab, go to Landscape, select Apply to, and choose Selected sections from the drop-down. Press OK to apply the changes.
How do you rotate text in Docs?
To rotate text in Google Docs, open a new Doc, insert a text box, and select Drawing. Now, in the Drawing section, select the Text box icon from the toolbar.
