If you keep getting a pop up asking me to sign in to your Microsoft account to turn on Family features, then in this post, we will share some tips to turn off Microsoft Family features pop up. Many forum users have reported that even though they are not part of the family, the pop-up keeps showing up.
It displays the message as:
Sign in so you don’t miss out
You need to sign back into your Microsoft account so you can send your parent requests when you want more screen time or need permission for certain apps and sites.
It’s a standard message for any child account or if it was under a child’s account when he or she sets up the computer again. However, if your account is not a child account and you still get this popup on your system, it is very annoying. In such a case, you can turn it off. Here are some suggestions you can follow to turn off the Microsoft family features pop up.
Turn off Microsoft Family features pop up in Windows 11/10
According to the popup message, the child is not signed in with his/her Microsoft account on his/her Windows device. Therefore, signing in to his/her Microsoft account will fix this problem. However, if you are getting this popup even if your account is not a child account, the following fixes will help you get rid of this Microsoft family features pop up message.
- Change Birthdate.
- Unlink your Child account from Microsoft Family
- Leave the Family group and reset (Adults only)
- Disable the Parental Controls Service
- Disable the required tasks in the Task Scheduler
Below, we have explained all these fixes in detail.
1] Change Birthdate
If you have recently moved into adulthood, you may want to change your birthdate if it doesn’t work automatically. The following steps will help you with that:
- Go to account.microsoft.com and sign in with your Microsoft account.
- Select Your info from the left side.
- Click Edit profile info and change your date of birth.
Now, check if the issue persists.
You may find the options to change the date of birth greyed out. This is because your account is still marked as a Child account and has not been converted into an adult account automatically. In this case, you cannot change your date of birth. You have to ask your parents to change your date of birth. They can change your date of birth by signing in to the Family Organizer account.
The following steps will guide you on this. These steps are for parents:
- Go to account.microsoft.com and sign in with your Microsoft account.
- Select the Account option from the left side.
- Scroll down and click on your Child account.
- Your Family will open in your web browser. Now, click on the three dots next to your Child’s account and select Manage Consent.
- Now. click Edit this child’s personal info.
- Change the date of birth and click Save.
Restart the computer and check if changing the date of birth works for you.
2] Unlink your Child account from Microsoft Family
If you were under a child account, then you need to ask the Adult member to remove your account from the family. Below are the steps the adult member needs to follow:
- Go to family.microsoft.com, and sign in with the Microsoft account.
- Click on the three dots next to the Child account and select Remove from family group. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove your child’s account from the Family Group.
Now you need to go back to your Microsoft account and restart the computer for changes to take effect.
3] Leave the Family group and reset
It is a reset method that you can apply if nothing else works. You will always be able to perform re-setup using the same or new Microsoft without losing anything. If you have added benefits like Microsoft Office, or OneDrive storage, make sure to use the same.
- First, make sure to remove all child accounts by following the methods we mentioned above.
- Next, you can remove all the adults. All of them are below your account. To remove the other adults from the family, click on the Remove from family group link. You will have to confirm similar to child accounts.
- Lastly, you can click on the Leave family group. If you are the last account, it will be a reset.
You can then set up again, and add family members to pass them the benefits of a Family account.
4] Disable the Parental Controls Service
If after converting your account from the Child account into the adult account, the issue persists, you can disable the Parental Control Service on your computer. The following steps will guide you on this:
- Open the Run command box and type services.msc. Click OK. This will open the Windows Services Manager.
- Now, scroll down and locate the Parental Controls service.
- Right-click on it and select Properties.
- Under the General tab, select Disabled in the Startup type drop-down.
- Click Apply and then click OK.
Restart your computer. The Parental Controls service enforces parental controls for child accounts in Windows. If this service is stopped or disabled, parental controls may not be enforced. Do note that users with Child accounts can access Windows Services Manager but cannot disable or enable the services. Therefore, being a parent, you need not bother about this.
5] Disable the required tasks in the Task Scheduler
You can also disable the required tasks in the Task Scheduler. Go through the following instructions:
Click on Windows Search and type Task Scheduler. Select the best match from the search results. When the Task Scheduler opens up, go to the following path:
Task Scheduler Library > Microsoft > Windows > Shell
Disable the tasks related to Family Safety. To do so, right-click on them one by one, and select Disable.
Users with Child accounts cannot disable tasks in Task Scheduler. If they try to do so, they will receive the following message:
The user account you are operating under does not have permission to disable this task.
I hope the post was easy to follow, and that you were able to get rid of the Microsoft family features pop-up in Windows 11/10.
