2] Turn off website recommendations in Windows 11 by using Registry Editor
The second method to turn off website recommendations in Windows 11 is by using Registry Editor. This method is technical compared to the previous method. Before you proceed make sure you create a system restore point, as this will help you to restore your system if a problem occurs. We also suggest you back up your Registry before proceeding.
Follow the steps carefully, as any incorrect modifications to the Registry Editor can make your system unstable.
Open the Run command box (Windows + R key). Type regedit and press Enter. Click Yes in the UAC prompt. This will open the Registry Editor. Now, navigate to the following path. The easiest way to go to the following path is to copy it and paste it into the address bar of the Registry Editor.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer
Make sure that the Explorer key is selected on the left side. In the right-side pane, right-click on an empty area and select New -> DWORD (32-bit) Value option. Now, name this value as HideRecommendedPersonalizedSites. Double-click on it and set its Value data to 1.
Exit the Registry Editor window and restart your computer. Website Recommendations will be disabled after the restart. If you want to enable the feature, follow the same steps and change the value data to 0. Or, you can also delete the above-mentioned DWORD value from the Registry Editor.
After disabling the option via the Registry Editor, the option will be greyed out in Windows 11 Settings (refer to the above screenshot). Hence, no other user can enable it via Settings. Hence, this method is useful if you have a shared computer.
That’s it, I hope this article helped you to turn off website recommendations on your Windows 11.
