Before updating your SSD firmware, you are advised to back up your most crucial data. This will keep your data safe in case something goes wrong.
Find your SSD manufacturer name and model number. To do this, go to Windows Search, type System Information, and open it. Then navigate to Components > Storage > Disks, and under Model, you should be able to see the name.
If you have multiple disks installed on your computer and are not sure which one is an SSD, you can open Defragment and optimize drives.
Once you know the model name, download and install your SSD’s manufacturer’s tool.

- PNY users can download PCIe SSD Toolbox and Firmware Updater or SATA SSD Toolbox and Firmware Updater.
For this article, we will be using the WD SSD Dashboard.
Launch your respective SSD utility tool and select your SSD. For instance, we have opened the WD SSD Dashboard and selected our SSD.
Finally, go to Tools > Driver Utilities, and click the Update SSD Firtmware button.
This will start searching for any software update and download and install it for you.
Note: The utility tool settings may vary between SSD manufacturers. If you can’t find a way to upgrade your SSD’s firmware, search for similar settings in your tool.

How do I check my SSD firmware version?
To check your SSD firmware revision, right-click the Start button and select “Device Manager” from the menu. Expand “Disk Drives,” then right-click on your SSD and choose “Properties.” Go to the “Details” tab in the Properties window and select “Hardware Ids” from the drop-down menu. The firmware revision will be displayed at the top-line end of the SSD part number.
