How to update your monitor firmware of a Windows 11/10 PC
The methods to update a monitor’s firmware differ for monitors of different brands. Here, I have covered the methods to update monitor firmware for the following popular brands:
- MSI
- Dell
- ASUS
- Lenovo
I have explained the method of installing the latest Firmware on all these monitors below. Before you proceed, here are some precautions that you should take before updating your monitor firmware:
- Disconnect all input sources from your monitor (HDMI cable, USB Type C cable, etc.) except the one that is used to update the monitor firmware. Usually, a DisplayPort cable or a USB Upstream cable is used to update the monitor firmware. If you are using a DP cable to update your monitor firmware, use the one that does not have an adapter.
- Only use the cable that came with your monitor.
- Disconnect all other monitors except the one you are updating from your computer.
- Do not install firmware updates on multiple monitors at the same time.
- Connect the cable directly to your monitor. Do not use a Docking Station in between the connections.
- Provide a continuous power supply to your monitor. The power supply should not be interrupted during the installation of the update, as it can damage your monitor.
- Change the monitor sleep time to Never in Windows Settings to prevent the monitor screen from turning off during the update.
Make sure that you download the correct firmware from the official website. Installing incorrect firmware on your monitor can damage it.
