Sometimes, you might need to send a document to someone to get an opinion or get the necessary work done. There are two ways to do that. First, you can send a copy of the document via email, and the recipient will make changes and re-send it to you. This is time-consuming and hectic at the same time. The second method is inviting the person and editing the document together so that you can communicate and make all the changes.
Before getting started, you should know that you must have the document on OneDrive so that the person can access your file. If your file is stored in local storage, it is suggested that you upload it to OneDrive first.
How to invite someone to edit Word document on iPad
To invite someone to edit a Word document on the iPad, follow these steps-
- Open a Word document in Microsoft Word app for iPad.
- Tap on the Share button.
- Select Invite People option.
- Type recipient’s name or email address.
- Tap the Send button.
To begin, oopen the document in Microsoft Word for iPad and tap on the Share button. It should be visible at the top-right corner of your screen. After that, select Invite People option from the list.
Now you need to type the name or email address of the recipient. If you have the name saved in your Contacts, you can type name. Otherwise, write down the email ID of the person.
Also, make sure that the Can Edit option is enabled. If not, your recipient cannot edit the document, and it will be a Read-only file for him/her. The advantage of using this functionality is that multiple people to collaborate with you on one file.
There is one more way to allow someone to edit your Word document on an iPad. You do not need to open the file if you use this technique. Follow these steps to learn more about the second method.
First, make sure the file is already created or uploaded on OneDrive. Now, open up the Microsoft Word app on your iPad and ensure you are on the Recent tab. For your information, it appears on the welcome screen. Here, you can find your document. If so, tap on the associated Share button.
Now, you can find the Invite People option, which you can use to invite anybody to collaborate with you.
How to remove an invitee & prevent him/her from editing
If you do not like to allow someone to edit your document, but you gave him/her the access to do so, here is how you can revoke it. Also, you could remove an invitee if you added him/her by mistake.
To do so, open the document and tap the same Share button. Now, you should see an option called Share With. Tap on it to get all the people that you invited earlier. Select a person whom you want to delete or change access. On the next screen, you can find three options – Can Edit, Can View, and Remove.
The first two options allow you to change access, and the third option allows you to remove a person from the invitee list.
