When you install certain Microsoft software, a piece of code called Microsoft Choice Guard, a part of the Search Enhancement Pack, is also installed. It could even have been installed via Windows Update. Many users ask. What is Choice Guard & why does it exist?
Microsoft Choice Guard
Microsoft Choice Guard will set the user’s homepage and search default if they chose those options during setup, by writing a value into a registry key.
Now, you may have noticed, several software during installation offer to change your home page settings as well as default search settings.
Furthermore, they may also install a Service that prevents the registry key from being changed.
Choice Guard hunts down such software which may be preventing users from exercising their choices in these two respects and works around this block.
It only does this only once. If you manually change it again, it will not interfere.
Microsoft Choice Guard program folder is typically located at:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Search Enhancement Pack\Choice Guard
You will be able to uninstall it via Control Panel easily, should you wish to.
