Another reason for the same could be a problematic browser extension or add-in which is not letting the downloads finish successfully.
Other reasons why your download may get stuck at 100% in Edge include using an outdated browser version, corrupted settings and use data, and not enough free space at the specified download location. In any of these scenarios, we got you covered.

Before you apply the fixes mentioned below, make sure there is no internet connectivity issue at your end. You can troubleshoot WiFi issues and see if the problem is resolved. Also, clear your Edge browser cache and try downloading the file again and check if the issue is fixed.
1] Make sure Edge is up-to-date
Such issues could be caused if you are using an older version of Microsoft Edge. Although Edge updates itself automatically whenever there are new updates available. However, in some instances like when using a metered connection, it might not be able to automatically install updates. So, in that case, you can manually check for updates.
To update Edge, press the Settings and more (three-dot menu) button and go to the Help and feedback > About Microsoft Edge option. It will then check for available updates and download & install them. You can then restart Edge and check if you are able to download files without getting stuck.
2] Check if you are able to download files in InPrivate mode
You might be facing this issue due to some problematic extensions installed in your Edge browser. To check if there is some interference by a third-party extension, you can open an InPrivate tab and try downloading files.
For entering InPrivate mode, press the Settings and more button and choose the New InPrivate window option. Or, you can quickly press the Ctlr+Shift+N hotkey to open the InPrivate window. Now, you can download the previous files that were giving you the problem at hand and see if the issue is fixed.
If the problem is fixed in the InPrivate window, you can disable your extensions to permanently resolve the issue. Here’s how:
- First, click on the Settings and more button and choose the Extensions option.
- Now, click on the Manage extensions option.
- After that, look for a suspicious extension and disable it.
- If you want to uninstall an extension, click on the Remove button.

3] Change your Download location
It might be your download location for Edge causing the issue. The downloads won’t complete if your download folder is running out of free space to accommodate more files. Or, if there is some other issue with the current download location. Hence, if the scenario applies, you can change your download location and check if the problem is fixed. Here’s how:
First, open Edge, click on the Settings and more button from the top-right corner and choose the Downloads option. Alternatively, you can press the CTRL+J hotkey to open the Downloads prompt.
Next, in the appeared Downloads panel, press the three-dot menu (More options) button and then click on the Downloads settings option.
Now, press the Change button present next to the Location option and select some other locations to save your downloads from Edge.
When done, you can retry downloading files and check if the problem is resolved.

4] Make sure your antivirus is not blocking downloads from the internet
If the above fixes didn’t help you, it might be your antivirus which is the main culprit. Overprotective antivirus software prevents you from downloading and saving files from the internet if it finds or detects them to be problematic.
Hence, if you trust the file source and are sure that the file is verified, you can disable your antivirus temporarily and then download the file. Besides that, you can also add the target file to the whitelist/exception/exclusion list of your antivirus to fix the issue.
5] Disable the Open Office files in the browser option (if applicable)
In case you are having this issue while downloading Microsoft Office files, you can turn off the Open Office files in the browser option in Edge. By default, Edge opens the Office files instead of downloading them. You can change this option by modifying Edge’s settings and see if the issue is resolved.
Here’s how:
- First, open, Edge, click on the Settings and more button, and select Downloads.
- Next, click on the three-dot menu button inside the Downloads panel and choose the Download settings option.
- Now, disable the toggle associated with the Open Office files in the browser option.
- After that, you can try downloading Office files and check if the issue is resolved.

After that, go to the Reset settings tab present on the left-side panel and press the Restore settings to their default values option. Confirm your choice on the next prompt and Edge will be reset. When done, check if you are able to download files without any issues.
6] Repair Edge
Some corruption associated with the Edge browser can also prevent you from successfully downloading files from the internet. Hence, to fix the issue, you can repair the Edge browser. Here’s how:
- First, close your Edge browser using Task Manager.
- Now, open Settings by pressing Win+I and move to Apps > Installed apps.

- After that, you will be prompted with a Repair Microsoft Edge dialog window; simply choose the Repair button.
