The Solver add-in for Microsoft Excel is one of the most important, so we can understand the frustrations when users cannot get it to work as they hope. In older versions of Excel, folks had to install Solver manually, but such is no longer the case with the newer version of the program.
Not too long ago, we saw users who upgraded from older versions of Excel to Office 365 complaining that there was no way for them to install Solver. Worry not, because commencing the task of going to Insert > Add-ins > Get Add-ins and searching for “Solver” is outdated.
With the new version of Microsoft Excel, Solver is included by default. You are only required to activate it. With that in mind, then, let’s talk about it some more.
How to load Solver add-in in Excel if it is not showing

How to activate Solver
Open your Excel sheet, then navigate to File, then Options. From there, you will need to move over to the Add-ins section and click the Manage box.
The next step, then, is to select Excel Add-ins. You will now be required to click Go to move on to the next section.
You should now see a box that says Add-ins Available. Just select the Solver Add-in the checkbox and click on OK to complete the task. Now, once Solver is loaded, you can find it in the Analysis group via the Data tab.
What if Solver is not located in the Add-ins Available box?
Should this be the case, select Browse to search for it on your computer. If you get prompted that the Solver Add-in is not currently installed on your computer, you will be prompted. Click Yes to install it.
