If you are facing issues with Microsoft Planner and it is not working, you are not alone. These glitches are quite disruptive to the workflow, from unresponsive features and loading problems to syncing issues. In this article, we will see what to do if Microsoft Planner is not working.
Why is Planner not loading?
MS Planner may not load for various reasons, such as Internet connectivity issues, normal glitches, corrupted caches, or server-related problems on Microsoft’s end. However, it can be easily resolved, as demonstrated below.
Fix Microsoft Planner is not working
If Microsoft Planner is not working, check out the troubleshooting suggestions mentioned below:
- Check the service status
- Quit and restart the app
- Clear Teams cache
- Access Planner via Outlook on the web
- Ensure all team members follow the group’s inbox
- Reinstall Teams
- Open a support ticket
Let’s get started with this troubleshooting guide.
1] Check the service status
Go to the Microsoft service status page, and ensure all the services function properly. If there’s any issue with Planner or Teams, it is probably the reason behind it. In such situations, the only solution is to wait for the developers to acknowledge it, and fix it.
2] Quit and restart the app
Quitting the app properly and then relaunching is a simple yet effective troubleshooting step as it clears any temporary glitches or conflicts. This is a constant phenomenon that can happen during the current session, so refreshing the app will give the app a fresh start, restoring normal functionality. So, properly quit the app, and for a more effective approach, users can quit the tasks related to MS Teams from the Task Manager.
3] Clear Teams cache
Cached data can sometimes become corrupted or outdated, leading to problems accessing or using Planner. Therefore we are going to clear out cache of Teams as this will remove all the potentially problematic files, allowing the app to reload fresh data from the server.
- Quit MS Teams properly, and then hit Win + R to launch the Run dialog box.
- Paste and hit the Enter button to execute the following command:
%appdata%\Microsoft\Teams
- Delete all the files but keep the folders:
- cache
- blob_storage
- Cache
- databases
- GPUcache
- IndexedDB
- Local Storage
- tmp
Once done, relaunch the app, and sign in to ensure that the issue has been sorted out. If not, move to the next solution.
4] Access Planner via Outlook on the web
Another method to access Planner is through Outlook. Outlook on the web may allow users to view their tasks and plans within the Outlook interface.
- Launch any browser, navigate to the Outlook website, and sign in with your credentials.
- Click on the Groups options from the left sidebar, and click on the group associated with Planner.
- Select the Planner tab to use it.
This is a workaround but not a solution.
5] Ensure all team members follow the group’s inbox
In this solution, we will make sure that all the team members follow the group’s inbox, as this ensures proper notification for updates, in the case Planner is down.
- Launch MS Teams, go to the team facing the issue, and then click the three dots (More Options menu) present beside it.
- Now, click on the Manage team option, and then navigate to the Settings tab.
- Select the Member Permissions, and one by one, click on the Subscribe button next to each button.
This will do the job for you.
6] Reinstall Teams
If none of the above solutions worked, it is now time to delete the current version of the app and download it again. Doing so ensures that any corruption, either during installation or usage, is eliminated.
- Click Win + I to open Settings, click on Apps, and then on Installed Apps.
- Scroll down to look up MS Teams, and then click on the three dots next to it.
- Select the Uninstall button, and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process.
- Once done, navigate to the MS Teams download page, download the latest version, and install it.
After the installation process is completed, sign in to your account, and check whether Planner is now working or not.

7] Open a support ticket
Lastly, users can also opt to open a support ticket and report the issue to the Microsoft Support Team. They can help identify the problem and troubleshoot it as soon as possible. For this, contact the admins, who will go to the Microsoft 365 admin center with admin access and put up a ticket via the Support section.
Hopefully, you can resolve the issue using the solutions mentioned here.
