If you encounter Microsoft Store Error 0x87AF0001, follow the solutions mentioned below to resolve the issue.
- Run Windows Store Apps troubleshooter
- Run StartComponentCleanup
- Turn off the Microsoft Defender Firewall
- Try to update in Clean Boot State
Let us see now them in detail:
1] Run Windows Store Apps troubleshooter
Before you try out any other method, you must run the built-in Windows Store troubleshooter and then check if your Windows version is able to fix the problem by itself. We can run the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter from the Get Help application. Alternatively, you can run Windows Store Apps troubleshooter from Settings, follow the steps mentioned below to do the same.
- Open Windows Settings (Win+I) and then select the System category.
- Select Troubleshoot and then click on Other troubleshooters.
- Now scroll to the bottom of the screen to Windows Store Apps.
- Then click on the Run the troubleshooter button to solve the problem with your PC.
At this time, they might ask you to enable User Account Control so that it can run Windows Store Apps. Click on the User Account Control (UAC) option and the system will start detecting the additional problem.
After that, sign in to your Microsoft account and then follow the on-screen instructions.
2] Run StartComponentCleanup
The StartComponentCleanup task was created to regularly clean up components automatically when the system is not in use. This task is set to run automatically when triggered by the operating system. When run automatically, the task will wait at least 30 days after an updated component has been installed before uninstalling the previous versions of the component.
You can run the StartComponentCleanup task using an elevated Command Prompt, using the following command:
schtasks.exe /Run /TN "\Microsoft\Windows\Servicing\StartComponentCleanup"
If you are successful, you will see a SUCCESS message returned.
Once it is completed, restart your computer and check if your problem has been resolved.
3] Temporarily turn off the Defender Firewall
Another possible reason that might cause the error is the Windows Firewall that blocks the Windows store sometimes. In such a case you need to turn off the firewall and then check if it fixes the issue. If you don’t find it helpful, turn the firewall back on.
To turn off the Microsoft Defender Firewall, open an elevated command prompt.
In the command prompt window, input the following command and hit enter to run it:
netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state off
Now go to the Windows App Store and try to update or download an app. If it works then the problem is resolved and now you may want to turn the firewall back on.
So, again open the elevated command prompt and type in the below command –
netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state on
Now press Enter to run the command.
4] Try to update in Clean Boot State
In case none of the above methods help you to fix this error then perform a Clean Boot and then try to download & install, or update the app. If it works, enable the disabled services manually, and check if the issue is resolved.
I hope this guide helps you to solve the issue.
